Nav OS enhancements?
Hi all,
I am new here although i have been poking around for a few months. Lots of talent and capable people hang out here so i figured i'd put this up for some thought.
I read somewhere that the Operating System behind the nav is Windows CE for Automotive. This seems to me to be something then that can probably very easily be explored and added to. Has anyone confirmed this? and does any one have the know how to add to it? Knowing that it is windows based leads me to believe that it probably has many capabilities built into it, and they are just not activated. Here is a short list of things that i would like to see that are probably do-able (although not by me).
One thing that bugs me is that the cd player on the nav doesn't show the cd and track title. I think that is a basic component of any graphics based cd player.
A web browser is also a basic component of the standard Windows CE as is the TCP/IP protocol stack. that being said it should be no probelm to insert my wi-fi card (the slot already exists on the DVD unit) and surf the web from a hot spot.
I think the biggest hurdle would be to get into the programming of the interface to allow these items to be put on the menu.

You might want to check out this thread. This has been looked into in depth before, with little success.
