My first impressions of the new NAV DVD
ok guy's, any of you who havnt got the new upreaded NAV disk are really missing out!
first of all the voice commands now work without having to actually turn the nav system on. (forgive me if my memory is bad but i belive the old system wouldnt do this)
second you dont need to press the map/guide button again after you hot the OK button on the screen. the map comes up automatically
third, not only can you use the voice controls at any time without turning on and entering the nav system you can gice voice commands to view the trip computer by first saying "display information" then "trip computer" i think you also have the calendar or calculator available i forgot.
4th when using the navi your turns are highlighted in a separate window and a smaller acura symbol actually drives itself along the intended path, very cool. it has a new foot counter that is right between the 2 windows that is more easily seen at the same time. the looks of it make it impossible to miss your turn
5th i noticed today that even though colorado springs was already updated in detail in the 3 year old version i had. the new version even though colorado springs was not on the list of cities that got updates, i found a couple streets that are new in my area that in the old version left bread crumbs because there was no road shown. now thoes areas have named roads and the navi will now use them to make the route complete whereas before it would not of course because it didnt know there was actually a road there.
6th route calculations for long trips seem to be much faster but the local in town routes seem to be about the same
7th the icons are all different as well as the color of the screen and the fonts of the street names seem to be larger and more easy to read.
anyway if you are one of the ones that paid 2000 for the navi the extra 200 shouldnt be an issue its like a new system, seems all the pet peeves i didnt like are all ironed out now

Now the one that fasinates me is your fith statement. Are you saying that when you are on an unmapped road the navi will guess the street name, or that it will paint the road into the system?

im saying that even though colorado springs was not on the list of cities updated in this version. there are some new roads that have been compleated since the last version was made. in this new version thoes roads in question where when i drove them in the past and left bread crumbs on are now updated and visible in this new version. the crumbs are still there where the road wasnt before and now there is a named road under the bread crumbs.
so im saying even though there was no "update or additions" to my city. there have clearly been some additions to the map compleatness.
i dont know the extent exactly but i kow many people who live in areas with poor coverage in the old version may find their city covered in a little better detail even if their city was not listed as having beed detailed.

BTW i found somthing else today that is new. if you have ever input more than 1 destination you planned to drive to for the day under todays destinations, the system actually calculates your group of destinations and decides the most efficent way to get to all of them without back tracking. i had wondered iof the old system did this but i have never seen it say it was calculating this before like it does on the new system.
since im an insurance agent i use the navigation almost daily to find peoples houses to inspect their property. so i often bring a list of addresses with me and program them all in and follow the instructions to each location and then to the next.
super handy feature if you ask me
also my 3rd statement you missunderstood. i meant that without turning on the navi you can verbally select the trip computer without puching any buttons. i do not belive the old version did this.

I posted this in the other nav discussion, but that seems to have died. I have also bought the new DVD, but have found a problem I am wondering if it is isolated to me. That is I can't change the background screen color to anything but blue. The setup screen will let me choose the other colors, but the screen color stays blue. I reported it and I've been told they will get back in touch with me in a couple of days. Anyone else have this issue?

also notice the volume control bargraph, look at the color of the bars above the volume level setting you will see the gray is the same indicating the level but the unused bars color is the color you select for the BG
