cd player
Hey, what year is your car? I have a 99tl and I had the same problem when trying to play CD-R's. It did not matter what brand I used, the CD player just did not play CD-R's well. I took my car in for maintenance and they gave me a 00' tl ( loaner car) and the CD player played my CD-R's just fine. So I bought a 00'tl CD player for my 99tl. I got an awesome deal on one off of E-Bay for $125. But my 99tl CD player may have just been really bad, try using different brands and if that still does not work, try looking for a 00'-01' tl cd player on E-bay. Some guys on this forum have swapped their CD-players for the 03' 6 disc-in-dash CD player. See if they still have their single CD player.
good luck

i have the same problem but it just depends on what kind of CD-R u used to burn. it just take forever to load and sometimes it wont even play. i remember reading once in a forum couple months back sayin that our cd player is not compatible with MEMOREX. i used TDK and i get really good results as johnnyb_s.

I think it has something to do with the weak laser that reads the CD-Rs on the 99s and some of the 00s. I can't play CD-Rs on my 99 TL, I've even used Sony CD-Rs. However, they work perfectly fine in my MDX and my sister's 01 Accord. It also plays fine in my Alpine CD changer.

You should also try to get a CD clearner to clean your cd writer. I was having problems with CDs that I burned recently and couldn't figure out why. The CDs I've burned in the past worked out just fine. Then I went ahead and cleaned my CD writer. Everything worked fine after that.

try buring at slower speed.
faster burn speed = more errors.
cd players have error correction circuitry, but some (older) ones don't have as much correction capability so they mistrack/won't load/etc.

Save yourself the $$$$$, use data CD-Rs.

it happen's to me when I burn at 24x....
just burn it at the lowest setting you can on your burner
I have two burners,
teac-4x8x32x
Sony-32x10x40x
on the teac if I burn at 4x it will work, and on the sony it will work at 8x
the problem I think is that the quality of the burner varies some what, so a lower burn speed will help.

Just returned from my dealer with this complaint. This is a problem on all '99's. Technician told me to use CD-RW instead of CD-R. Some of my CD-Rs work perfect, other are slow, and still some won't play unless the machine is cold. Also seems to be related, in part, to the brand. Evidently burn speed plays a role. Next time I'm trying a CD-RW.

I just burned a CD at 2x and it's even worse than before. This time, the CD player makes a hideous noise after the CD is inserted and doesn't read it at all. Before, with CDs burned at 12-14x, the CD player would take awhile (5-15 sec) before it played. Now it won't play at all! BTW, I have a 99TL. What is going on??

Took mine '99 to the dealer with the same complaint. The Acura technician confirmed this is a problem on all '99s and told me to use CD-RW for burning tunes. Haven't tried it yet. Has anyone done this?

I had problems playing cd's on my 2000 until I switched software. Originally I used some freebie stuff that came with the drive. The cd's would not work in the car. I got easy cd creator and no problems.

It's not the speed at which you burn the CD. I had problems with the media itself. After spending about 50 bucks trying out different CD-R's I found out that CD's rated at a max 16x work the best or just plain work... It doesn't matter what brand just make sure the cd's are rated 16x or less. Any cd's rated above 16x (24x, 32x, 48x) for some reason don't work in the '99 cd player. I eventually found some maximum rated 16x cd's. They are getting harder and harder to find though. I just bought 200 of these 16x blanks and figure they'd last for the life of my car. Anybody know why those higher speed rated cd's don't work in our cars??? Hope this helps....

I never had ANY problem with CD-R on my deck. I got an 00.
CD-RW will not play for sure, I think what they meant is to use an CD-RW drive. But that still won't make sense cuz all the drive made within the last 2-3 years are pretty much CD-RW.
I have a plextor burner, and I am not sure it that's what makes the difference, tried CD burn from my friends cheap ass no name 8x CD-R, worked fine as well

Ive tried just about every CDr you can buy, spent hundreds of dollars, and the only new cds that work in my 99tl are TDK digital audio ones, they have a white top. they are cdr music ones, and arent cheaper either, but they work, and are the only ones that work for me.

It might be the burner. I have 3 burners, a 16X, a 40X and a DVD +/- WR. The CD's I burn with the 16X and DVD burner work great, the CD's burned with my 40X have lots of problems (but data CD's are fine).

I have a '99TL and when I first got it I tried my burned cds and they worked fine--it seemed it was like this for the first 4 months I had it. I was using an HP CD-R drive with various kinds of media. Then one day the stereo just plain sh** the bed and now it takes a long time (sometimes never) for my burned cds to load. I go through cds quickly and I often change brands (costco) and I've never tracked the speed of the disc or the speed of the burn. I just installed a new burner (48X) yesterday and while it's way faster than the old HP I had, the TL still takes a while to load it. Perhaps I'll try burning slower with some different media. It just seems odd that I'd start having problems overnight--like I said, must be the media I'm using.
Has anyone considered (or had any luck) this to be a warantee issue?

I had the same problem in an alpine car stereo I purchased in 1998. Turns out that 80min cds were not compatible, but TDK 74min/650MB data cds worked fine. I have also found that 74min. data cds will play better in my 99TL than 80min.
