I have 2 12" Kicker Comp VR's installed in my 2003 TLS, along with a 600 watt Kenwood amp. I had the system hooked up to a toggle switch, for when other people drive my car. Anyways, when i run the subs, my car eats a lot of gas. I only get around 280 miles per tank, maybe less, when i run my subs. When I don't run my subs, i get over 300 miles per tank. Is this normal or what? Also if i buy a cap, would this solve my problem? Ive asked several audio shops about my problem, and they all told me that this shouldn't happen. They state that the subs and the fule system have nothing to do with each other. Sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the subs and the fuel system have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with each other. maybe your just slammin the gas more. i kno music gets my car goin faster, the led foot just gets heavier when bass bumps all around. the more bass, the more disoriented you are. so the less likely you are to notice how fast your goin.

try turning the subs around. Maybe the pressure from the subs is slowing you down?

The vibration from your subs could be misaligning your fuel intake fluctuator, causing the engine to draw more fuel than necessary. Try inserting some type of vibration absorbing substance under your woofers. I have both of my subs resting on hemorroid pillows.

The only thing I could think of at all, is that your amp is pulling a lot of watts from your altenator, which in turn is making the car work harder, but getting less gas, especially at a 20 mile difference is kind of far fetched.

Don't forget about the Flux Capacitor. It is isn't flickering in-tune with the bass hit, it could mess up the system ?

You don't really need a cap, but if you get JL subs they won't use as much gas. The conduct bass more efficiently increasing your gas mileage.

A really good way to save gas is to keep the car at home. Or what u can do it rent a trailer, hitch your TL on a trailer and that way everyone gets to see your car but you don't waste any gas.

I would have paid serious cash to see the audio shops dude's face when u asked that question.

well i would think it could happen to a car that have a really big amp cuz its drawing the power from the car that's why u get that dim when the bass hit. that mean u're not burn all ur fuels, getting less HP mean shorter trip.

i know that those two have nothing to do with each other...but during the process of burning fuel in the combustion chamber, any lack of spark will make ur car misfire...i dont know if 600watt amp will cause that much of a different in mpg but if u car headlight and all the interior light can dim cuz of a system...for sure i will effect the power that needed to fire the engine.

Why wouldnt it be possible for a system for fuck up ur car, please tell me why....if it can fuck up ur alternator and battery u're losing power right there.

Don't listen to these guys, man. They don't know jack. I had the same problem with my car. What I do now is accelerate reaally fast then turn the engine off and coast for a while. When I slow way down I start her up and accelerate real fast and shut her down again. My mileage is muck better and the stereo sounds better without the engine noise in the background.

Oh, and install one of those Tornado things in the intake. That should help. :wtf:

I do understand what I B Jimmy is saying though, it's the same what I said. It could be messin' up his car, but I doubt it effects gas mileage that badly.

Hey guys, I'd like to thank the people that took this thread seriously. I still haven't found a solution to my problem, so for the time being, I'm not going to use my subs. If I can't find a solution at all, I may just sell the system, and get something different down the line. Anyways, thanks for your guys help.
