MTX 10's , PPI 400 watt amp

Within the next week and a half, I'm considering buying this off my friends. The subs are new, while the amp has been used. I'm wondering if any of you have a similar setup..and know how it's going to hit in my TL-s. Also, what do you recommend.. bandpass or regular box??

thanx.

Talking

I have 2 12" mtx 8000 series in a sealed box and it hits harder than any other speakers I have had. I dont think you can go wrong with mtx subs.

MTX hits hard but they need too much power. i went from MTX to JL Audio. One of the differences i noticed is that JL subs are more efficient.

mtx ???

mtx subwoofers are kidding me?? mtx subwoofers are a joke..jl audio are way better, mtx isnt even close to jl audio...mtx are the poor mans woofers. if you want woofers that'll blow, then get them, but if you want woofers that knock then get jl audio, rocford, mb quarts, or something better than mtx

Personal opinion from an installer...

Read my post here:
http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...&threadid=8672

I've never been a PPI fan...they're not as bad as Sony...but they cut out some frequencies, and really suck power. JL's lineup of amps is pretty good...as is Rockford Fosgate, my personal choice. Seeing as I can get an 800.4 4 channel 800W amp for $300, it's not a whole lot. Also, MTX are SO Circuit City. They are definitely NOT quality subs, although I will say, I have seen a guy win an IASCA local tournament with them....barely. I suggest you step up to JL, Rockford Fosgate, Kove Audio, Kicker, Polk Audio, or Infinity. I have +'s and -'s for all of them, but JL and Infinity are my two favorites...

Oh yeah and boxes:
Sealed - Not completely accurate reproduction, but easiest to tell if the subs are going to blow...easiest to build
Ported - Most accurate reproduction if tuned correctly, next easiest to build
Bandpass - called "Bandpass" because it passes bands of frequency...so if you're looking to hit low and hard bass...it incorporates sealed and ported design, and tuned correctly it can pass bands in a 40Hz range. However, it is the hardest to build, most expensive to build, and last but not least, you will have no clue before you blow your subs...of course I have that type of box...built myself...

If you are not thinking of ever competing in a car stereo competition, and you have limited funds, your choices are OK. However, if you can afford to spend a few bills more, get the JL subs.

Thanks for the reply..

well- I've already soldered the subs into a sealed box. The reason I'm going to use these are I have very limited funds..and each sub is only costing me 45 bucks (from a friend)..and the box itself was only 30 bucks....

I'll get the amp for about a hundred...(also from a friend) I just hope the system hits,..somewhat clean too.

Alright.. i'll tell you what i think of the sound when i finally finish. Maybe after i'm done getting my CAI..then I can work on getting an MB quart component system.

You SOLDERED THE SUBS? When I think solder, I think soldering gun, and lead solder...which doesn't make sense

soldered.

Yeah, my friend helped me to solder the 12 gauge wire to connect the subs to the terminals on the box. I hope that cleared up some confusion. Oh..now that I think about it..hmm..what if i got better subs now...but then.. I think.. i'm damn near..if not already broke. =/ well... i hope the system hits. =)

btw... does anyone know what size the stock bose speakers are? If i choose to go coaxial..... what should i be looking at?
thanks again.
