MB quart 213

Hi guys. I just put a new headunit in the car, pioneer 7700. I was going to upgrade the front speakers since they met their demise after the new cd player went in. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the mb quart brand in general or the mb quart 213's in particular. Thanks for any help. Also if anyone could recommend a set of component speakers that would be great. Finally where does the crossover mount when installing the component speakers. Thanks.

MB Quart is a good brand of speakers. They use metal tweeters that can sound bright and forward, and can be fatiguing over time, depending on how they are installed. You don't say which car you have. The TSX has a factory tweeter position that I personally don't recommend for metal tweeters. The TL is a little better, at least they are not bouncing directly off of the glass.

Like most good component speakers, I would enver run the MBQ Reference or Premium speakers off of head-unit amp power. They would not sound as good as they could - the in-line xovers would sap enough power to make musical peaks sound noticeably worse. I would not use these speakers unless you have an external amp of 30W RMS or more.

Brands to consider that compete with MB Quart at that level are a/d/s/ 2-series, Morel Dotech, DLS, Alpine X-type, Boston Pro (I like all these), Diamond, Focal (not as highly esteemed IMO).

MB Quartz are titanium dome tweeters. They have huge external crossovers.
They are awsome, a lot of people think they're too bright, but if you knew how to tune them with the external crossover, you can hear how warm they are.
Please go with at least reference, don't waste ur time with discus

The car is a 98 cl. I'm not sure if the bose amp was disabled when the new headunit was installed, Im going to check that today. In the end I do plan on getting an aftermarket amp. Here is a link to the speakers i was thinkning about getting.

With MB Quart the same model numbers are used a lot with different letters.

THat's because the numerals describe the diameter. THe letters tell you the series.

These speakers are the Discus - the entry level.

If you presume that the better external xovers solve any metal-tweeter problems (an argument I don't entirely agree with, but anyway), don't buy the discus, because they lack the good external xovers.

But if these are instead of something else at $100/pr, go ahead.

OK, nismo, if he only has deck power, why would you recommend the less efficient and more expensive speakers?

Discus can sound pretty good relative to the normal $100 a pair door speaker. THey don't use the external xover, they just use a cap on the tweeter, so they are not as smooth at higher outputs as the others.

But ou don't seem to be looking for a high-end speaker - or else you'd have an amp and all the rest. You asked if MB Q is a good brand - it is. The discus do NOT sound like crap. Entry level for MBQ is not entry level for most brands - it's still pretty good.

I wouldn't buy it but I am looking for a higher end product. For the price, it is a very hard deal to beat.

Nice handle nismo... must be a low bar in Vancouver...

I do plan on putting in an amp and everything later I just dont have the money or knowledge to do it right now. What I'm wondering about is when the new headunit was installed would they have had to disconnect the bose amp, if so i suppose that is convenient since it would have needed to go later anyway. Would it be possible for someone to explain, briefly, how all the wiring is run to an amp and also how the amp would be connected to the headunit. Could I simply reuse the stock wiring that was run to the bose amp??? Thanks

Since i can assume not everyone has read the earlier post, to recap, I had a Pioneer 7700 installed the other day at which point the front speakers stopped working.

you can still use your factory amplifier if you wish to do so.
