Overall thickness is 2mm. The foil is 6/1000" (0.006") thick. It's the thickest in the industry, and therefore the best at keeping panels from flexing.

As you can see from the vids, this stuff does a great job. I wish I could've gotten some vids of the mids before and after, because this stuff definitely helps. And yeah, .3 on that meter. I can't wait to get back in the competition lanes to see what it does on Greg's (local judge) meter. I'm hoping it'll finally break that elusive 40 mark...

Thanks dude. I believe the next comp is going to be around New Years or so, but I'm not sure. That meter seemed way down on numbers, so I guess we'll see whenever the next comp rolls around. I love that the car's peaking this low now. The only problem is that it's tough to find bassrace songs that play that low for that long... Fortunately, I found 3 that might work, 2 of which will work for sure. DJ Billy E - Beats for my Van, and Keri Hilson ft. Lil Wayne - Turnin' me on. DJ Billy E works better, but it also kills my voltage. I guess I'll just have to try both, but hopefully I have a D3100 (or 2) in the trunk by the next time I'm in the lanes.

So I've had a couple comps since I last updated. I took 3rd in both, and am now sitting in the top 50 in the world for bassrace points. Not too bad, but I need to step up my game. Anyway, I'm ordering some new goodies for the Acura here soon. Wednesday, I'm going to be paying for some wire from a preorder, 2 50' rolls of Shok Industries 1/0, and tomorrow I'm going to be going to Home Depot looking for some 8" sonotubes and resin. Also this week or so, I'm going to be ordering more Damplifier Pro and possibly some Luxury Liner Pro. That should help the number a bit, but I guess we'll see. There's also another something in the works:

Thoughts?

Greenwood, do you not see the 4th order plan right there? I wish I had more to show, but currently, it's just a plan. Since I'm probably gonna be buying all this deadener, I won't be able to start the box for the next week and change or so, till I get paid again. Although Birch is dirt cheap right now ($40 or so a sheet) so I wish I had some spare change right now to pick up the 2 sheets that I'll probably need for this box. That, along with the ~65 T-nuts I'm going to need, and along with the ~65 bolts to hold things together, and the 8 brass bolts for wire, this is going to be a rather expensive box build... It better be worth it though... Or I'm gonna be pissed...

Oh, no. I can't afford new gear, or rather just don't want to spend the money on it. After this Second Skin, my next purchases will be another battery and possibly a charger from XS Power. Since the Acura is no longer daily driven, I'm looking for some way to keep the batt(s) topped off regularly. The charger we have no is junk and will easily overcharge the batts if you don't watch it.

Thanks Chris. I can't wait to see the results either. I'm thinking low 40s, possibly even enough to bassrace a 39.9, which I might step up to for 2011, just gonna need more batts.

I'm meeting up with a guy to get in on some Shok Industries 1/0 wire today. Gonna have an extra 100' of 1/0 chilling in my house till it gets warm enough to run it. I should also have some custom battery terminals sometime soon, if I can get an answer from XS Power about my battery's dimensions. Or I could just go buy a set of calipers and take the measurements myself.

I'm also getting some 8" PVC pipe that will help smoothing out the new box. Unfortunately, it's going to take up space in the ported chamber, but hopefully the smoothed out corners will help gain some of that efficiency back. I'm completely clueless about how this will end up sounding, but I'm gonna play with it till it sounds good. Hooray T-nuts and 1/4-20 bolts, when it comes to removing and reattaching wood panels.

Looks like plans changed (as is always the case in the competition game) and now I'm going to be building the box before I get the Damp Pro and other goodies. So hopefully I can get ahold of a couple buddies and get this box done this weekend. Birch prices are down too, with 3/4" 13 ply being like $43 when I checked on Tuesday. So that's good, and I can get 100 1/4-20 T-nuts for around $15, so that'll be nice too. Bolts will be kinda expensive, but that's what happens when you're working with 2" bolts. Then some 2-2.5" Brass bolts, at $1 per coil, for the terminals. 8ga speaker wire ftw...

Anyway, pics as it happens...

Oh Chris, I should've known you'd say something about the birch... But you're right, birch is just overpriced junk. Nobody's ever gained dbs by switching from MDF to Birch.

lol

Just a bit of info for those comparing MDF to Birch, or thinking about building their own enclosure:
Birch is lighter and stronger than MDF. It's also cleaner to use, putting out let dust than MDF, and what little dust it does put out falls to the floor, rather than creating a massive cloud.

UPDATE:

Got my terminals from Toolmaker (Thanks Anthony) and got them installed. Had a bit of a hickup with the countersinking of the mounting bolts, but nothing a Dremel and bench grinder couldn't fix. So I got my D2400 underhood (finally) and got the old box out completely, along with most of the foam. I have the entire shell of the box built, just need to get going on mounting all of my T-nuts and everything for the removable baffle and loading wall. I also had a bad design in the baffle (wasn't big enough, stupid mistake on my part) so I had to get a new on built.

Anyway, Pics:

Batt and terminals:

Sexy terminals:

Not too bad for not seeing any kind of charge in a month, and sitting out in the cold:

UPDATE:

I worked on the car way too much this weekend, but here's an update for everyone.

Deck:

When 3/4" x 3/4" wood splinters with T-nuts in it, you go to something a little bit heavier duty:

Mock up of the sealed chamber:

Mock up of the box:

Looking in through the port:

Speaker wire hook-ups:

Wire run:

Subs wired:

Loading it into the car... It's just over 9 cubes externally:

In the trunk:

HU decided to die on me, after working just fine throughout the day. Not really sure what happened, but this is the final result:

Got a new hu, Pioneer DEH-P5100ub, and this is the initial result:

139.18 at 66hz, peaking way way way way way too high. Added another 2x4 to the port, and we get this:

140.12 at 55hz. It's still peaking way to high (needs to be around 43hz) but it's getting there. Not too bad of a score for a couple 10s in a box that needs some work, and with no seal or anything.

It's nowhere near tuned right now. As you can see from the TL pic, the current peak is 55hz. I need to get it down around 43-44hz, which 1 more 2x4 should take care of. It's also losing a ton from not being sealed, and the fact that there's not a good seal on the loading wall. Don't worry, Brian, it should get much louder (thinking it should do at least a 43 when done). That being said, I told you I'd fit 9 cubes in there...

I still have a bit of space, but after 2 D3100's, and getting both amps back in, there will be no space. Regardless, I have a feeling this will be very well worth it. With a bit more power, I should be able to bassrace 39.9 pretty easily. I'm still dead tired from this past weekend of workin on the car. I should have a buddy coming over this weekend to help out, now I just need to find a TL to use to get this testing done...

Another weekend, some more work done... This weekend, I got the box sealed off, got the port dialed in, and it's back up and playing great. The peak ended up around 52hz, but this thing plays sub 30hz like no other... It's great, I love it. Anyway, on to some shots of the scores:

First test of the day (left shot, even though both meters were in the car):

Played with some stuff:

Added the seat back in, shortened the port, and this is where she sits. This score was done with a clamped power of 1kw:

I almost forgot I had this. It's been quite awhile since I last updated. Got the score up to a 142.4db just by charging the battery. That was still with the 1 battery, 1 amp and 2 10s. For this weekend at Slamology, I borrowed a couple AQ 2200's and stole the battery out of my Celica (XS Power D5100R) and added all that plus 2 more runs of 1/0 into the car.

Anyway, here are some pics:

Amps in and mounted, and as the trunk sits:

Family pic of the AQ 2200 with it's big brother, the AQ 20k beast:

Currently, the amp is turned way down and is powering 2 Cascade Design Omega 18's. When he can afford it (he got laid off for ~ 2 months and just got back to work) he's replacing the 2 18s with 8 DC lvl 4 10's... Oh yeah, it's tuned at 28hz too. That Saturn is absolutely insane...

I would like to see this set up with 8 10's. Try to post pics when it's all said and done. But will it go in that same car? And how will the subs be laid out?

I have a few pics/vids of the car, and yeah, it's absolutely sick. Trust me, you're not the only one waiting on the 8 10's setup. He was hoping to have it done by this past weekend, but when he got laid off for awhile, he couldn't afford to upgrade yet. I'm excited to see those done so he can actually turn the amp up and see what it'll really do. Yes, the 8 10's are going in the Saturn. He's keeping the same basic box design, just changing the baffle. Right now, he's got the 2 18s behind the front seats and the port fires out the back of the box, then bends over on itself and flares into a big horn at the b-pillar. If the website where his build log is would load back up, I'd link you to it, but it's having some database error right now. Hopefully that's fixed here in the next couple hours or so. But yeah, the sub arrangement will be 2 rows of 4 subs behind the 2 front seats. The car's going to be hurting to say the least. Tuning right now is around 27hz, and when the 10s go in, it'll be around 28.5hz or so. It's nasty on the lows...
