Making a Sub box

Well I got a quote from a shop and they wanted $200 to make a box. I said fock that. So I decided to make the box myself. However, I do not have the first clue as to what needs to be done. I took some measurements and what not and I have come up with the following:

LxDxH = 20" x 12" x 13"

I plan on using 5/8" Medium Density Fiberboard. So the total interior volume comes out to 2368.36cu in. (hope i did the math right) I will cut out a hole for a 10" sub on one face. I will drill nails in every 4 inches along with sealant in the interior of the box.

What do you guys think? Is that enough/too much volume for a sealed box? I plan on mounting a single amp(speaker amp) on the back side of the box and another amp(mono amp for the sub) on top of the box. This will help with the limited space I have to work with. The sub will be facing the back of the car.

Hmm, don't subs usually have a recomendation as to the size of the box in cubic space? I would go with that...

exactly, each sub will have their own specific box requirements. What kind was it?

for example, this is the sheet for my sub...JL 12W3V2 specs

Don't forget that when building a box for a sub to factor in the subs displacement into the overall box volume.

$200 doesn't sound bad at all to me!! Here in cali, I can't find a place to make a custom box for under $300. If you think about it, at least $80 in wood/screws/opoxy/ect. Then at least 2-3 hours to make the box. If they wanted $60/hr thats $120-180. There's your 2 bills!! Small price to pay to get a custom box done by professionals with the perfect specs for your setup.

FYI, I did my own box for my gs400 a couple years back and it came out decent. I went to kicker.com and found the wiring diagram and correct box measurements for my 12" L7. Cost me about $100 all said and done but it wasn't perfect... I will have someone build one for my TL in the future...

Anyways... GOOD LUCK!!
