A little vid of the cl's system

The other thing to remember with ported boxes is that above the tuned frequency, you can throw more juice at the sub. The gains with the port vs the gains in the extra excursion sealed are greater. Plus, not that much gets in, the port allows for some cooling of the VC... instead of the sub just recirculating the same increasingly hot air through the motor.
On the contrary, overpowering the sub at frequencies below the port's tuned frequency can result in over-excursion of the driver, and that's no good.

It does circulate the same hot air, but air doesnt reach a temperature nearly hot enough to damage the voice coil's for a minimum of at least two hours, and that's provided you run your subs for two hours straight at a fairly decent level. the air inside a sealed box takes about 35 minutes to return to the outside temperature.
EDIT: the two hour statistic is based off of two 12" subs mounted in a 3 cubic feet box.
With a ported box, yes you can get more, but nothing beats a bandpass box for extreme bass. Also, the ability for the subs to move more air and not have a constant level of pressure behind them allows them to wear out faster and with most enclosures being particle board, over time they can put serious stress on the mounted rim through stress points where its screwed.
Each has there benefits, and its really a too each his own thing. some like the sound of sealed, others like the sound of ported. doesn't change the fact that (for the most part) all the competition guys use tuned bandpass boxes.

well this set up killed my alt. So I just ordered a 160 amp. Also seems my trunk is leaking. As I am redoing my box (rounded edges counter sinked screws and filled in, also using paint this time to match car). I wonder if having the system on when it was raining might be the reason, instead or leaking seals.

eh maybe the nextbox. I don't wanna take it apart and mess upthe seal and I've already sealed the screws in. it slammed hard enough before and with more juice to the amp all should be swell.

Ahh the box renovation is finished the paint is the gray that matches my plastic trim should match the car and not look so out of place. Also is a shot of the DD shes a beasty lil ho. And weighs over 45 lbs. The two spots on the front of box is where my l bracket goes to keep the box in place. It's gonna be painted to match the box. I was gonna powder coat it black but then would not match anything.

Well I may sell it as is. Or I may recone it haven't decided yet. As this thing still slams still moves my roof and trunk and doors the same wired at 2 ohm with one coil hooked up.

that looks good. I just got a new system actually. I got 2 12" Kicker L5s, the 2ohm ones. There in a box made by Kicker, and Im pushin them with an Infinity Reference 1.600a amp. It hits really hard, and i got one of those bass boost controllers, so when i go into neighborhoods or i see cops i can turn the subs down, and not the music. I love it. heres a pic.

Looks good. But you should try building a custom box, I bet it could get louder than the kicker one. I use to have 2 l5's in my old ranger it beat pretty hard, then i went to a 15" l7 and now the dd. As for my system I have a guy coming to look at my 15 tomorrow and should be buying it. So I am putting in 2 12's. More cone area should help me get louder.

i would build a bigger box, but i have no knowledge in that area, and i dont got the tools. plus id need to port the box, and thers a lot of math in that. so im probably gonna stay away from that until someone gives me an extremly detailed rundown of box building. Now i just need to Dynamat the shit out of my car because it rattles like no other. check out this stuff and tell me if its any good please. thanks

I think you hear my single 12, and you'll change your mind about that...

That should help you with your deadener questions. I know it's not the most recent thing in the world, but it's a good starting point...
As for the ported box, if you want help working on one, pm me... I designed the one the first couple that on1wheel built... Also, where are you located? I could probably build one for you and ship it if you wanted... If you don't want to pay that much, I could help you get through everything you need to build you a box...

well not much math at all type in your max dimensions and it gives you the cut sheet just play around with the port width to get your desired tuning hz is say around 34 for daily. btw max dimensions are 33 wide 16.5 high and 18 deep if you want to get your spare out. that makes it around 3.5 cubes. for you type in 33 16.5 18 18 3.5 and that would be a good box for you. if you wanted to go 20" deep that would be ideal at 4 cubes but either would slam

Still working with the 1200w amp? Maybe a couple of AQ SDC2.5's? They're rated at 600, but like all AQ's and DD's they can take more... You could probably rock a couple 10's and just surprise the hell outta people when they ask what kind of subs you've got...

Sounds like a plan... Now when are we having that Oh, PA, rest of the midwest meet?

I actually left my installation job because there's no hype anymore. Alot of stuff is crap now these days. I understand why you wouldn't want rattle but back home in San Jose Ca when you can make an 83 cadilac el dorado rattle you were the shit. My favorite bass songs are Lil John Whatcha gon do, three six mafia slob on my knob, and any bass cd(bass mechanik, 305 bass, etc). My first setup in high school (95) was 2 MTX terminator 12's(used to be on level with pyle drivers and old school cerwin vega quakes), no highs and no mids just all bass. Now I can't even find quality in eclipse, alpine, orion, etc.
