Licience Plate rattle
Licience Plate rattle
At first I thought it was the trunk that was rattling now I realized the 2 12" type R's in my trunk are making the licience plate shake like hell and there are screws at the bottom and its hitting the trunk (i know scratches) what do you guys do to make the plate stay still.

I have the dynamat license plate kit, which is simply a piece of dynamat cut to fit your plate, and a stupid cover that I got rid of. My plate rattle went away as soon as I put the dynamat on the back of the plate. However, if you're too cheap to get the dynamat sheet, my friend's favorite method which I thought was kinda
is to just double sided tape your plate right to your bumper or plate location, and eliminate the screws. I was much happier putting the dynamat on and using screws, cuz it looks cleaner, and I don't have to worry about my paint.
Now I just have to finish dynamatting the rest of my trunk, cuz since i put my 12's in my whole trunk lid, wing, and rear deck rattle

BTW, I put weatherstrip on the back of my plate. It used to rattle when I shut the trunk and now it don't rattle no mo.
But, I'm just using Avincar 6x9 in the rear shelf.
The one I bought had self adhesive tape. It was about 3/4" wide and about 1/2" inch thick. Purchased at Lowe's. I attached it to the back of the plate, all the way around the perimiter, leving only spaces for the screw holes. Then I just screwed the plate on (this compressed the weatherstrip slightly. I have a TSX so there were only 2 holes. I bought 2 very short screws and nuts and screwed the plate frame and plate toghether using the two bottom holes on the fame. This keeps the plate from rattleing against the frame. If you want you can slip a little weather strip between the frame and the plate as well.

Easier suggestion...Just get some foam weather stripping from Home Depot/Lowe's and apply it around the edge on the back of the license plate. I also found that the weather stripping is good for the rear deck as well.
