LCD Monitor In Dash
Has anyone installed an LCD Monitor in place of that useless little tray right above the stock stereo? I have an 03, I don't know about other years. I would like it to pop out like the tray.
Thought about putting a DIN-size retractable LCD in and mounting it about 1" recessed and that way it would be concealed by the dash until you turned it on. Might be able to do it fairly inexpensively...key word..might.
I broke that tray right after I bought the car and they want over $250 to fix it, so I figured for $250 I could get a nice start on an LCD mod.
If you have done this, can you please post pics and instructions?
Thanks.

yes it is possible to put a screen above the headunit... the screen that was used in that picture in the gallery was the pioneer avx-p7000.... that screen has been replaced by the avx-p7300.... in order to do this mod you will have to disassemble the tv unit somewhat and some cutting of the dash will be neccasary in order to get clearance for the tv unit.... if you are not an experienced installer i would recommend you talk your car to a good audio shop in your area to have this done... but persoanlly i would just go ahead and replaced the head unit with a tv set up.....

AegeanTypeS, i want to do the same thing, only i want to pump a computer monitor signal in to the screen... im a full time computer geek, and even i cant find a screen that matches my needs... the pioneer they are talking about wont do the job cause it has no VGA input, and i want touch screen ... if you find anything good let me know, other than the pioneer...
hey ur in largo? i think i have seen you, im up in palm harbor and theres not many Aegean type-s' out there, how old r u??

Hey AegeanTypeS, I actually wanted to do the same thing you want to do. What shawhite is talking about doing is pretty difficult if you are not experienced in installs... since I wasn't expereince, I had to improvise. I bought the avx-p7300 screen and installed it myself. I had a lot of work to do though. I had to cut some of the plastic off right above the coin tray, dropped the stock console unit down, trimmed an opening above the opening the popout tray and had to do some trimming and rearranging of wires behind it to fit it in. It worked out well for me and I saved a couple hundred dollars for install. You have to be patient and very careful working with all the electronics behind tyhe dash though because it controls your head unit, climate control, clock, etc. and can acutally cost you much more in the end.
Long story short... it can be done, but can be a pain for someone with little experience.
Actually, my car has the Pioneer AVX-P7300 screen in the front, two screens in my headrests, powered by a AVM-P8000R, controlling a APEX dvd player (apex because plays almost anything) and a Pioneer CD-VS33 video switch, which sometimes runs a dreamcast or playstation 2.... im looking into posting some pictures soon...
Anyways... good luck!
