Smile Large 6x9 speaker touching trunk support bars

Hello,

I just installed new Infinity Kappa 6x9 on the rear and man these speakers are large (to me that). They are so large that they touch the bars that connect to the trunk ( i think the bars are for trunk support). Well, I left the speakers as is so when I lift the trunk, the bars touches the speakers making it shift upwards. I wondering if anyone had this problem and had a fix for it. Can I remove the trunk support bars? Are there mods for it?

Thanks in advance.

You can spacer out the speakers. You can run anything from a thin piece of ABS (as thins as 1/4") up to a 3/4" piece of MDF.

My concern is will the rear panel that covers the speakers fit after the spacers are installed?

How much clerance do you need? I have plastic spacers that I made when I had to go to 3/4" mdf. PM me if you want info on the spacers

Ideally I would like enough to when I open the trunk, the support bars will not touch/lift the speakers. Yes, please send me specs (pictures if you can) on your spacers. I'm thinking 3/4" will create enough clearance between the bottom of the speaker and trunk support bars.

Thanks!

I will dig mine out, I think they're only 1/2" but I really don't need them so if you're willing to try them I'll let them go dirt cheap. I'll try to remember to dig them out today

Let me see how much clearance I have without creating issues with the back panel.

After a closer look, because the trunk support bars bends near the speaker, when the trunk lifts, that bend also moves upwards about 1". Now if I install 1" spacer, I'm afraid the rear deck panel will not insert all the way. Do I really need the support bars? Are they use to slightly lift the trunk when the trunk release button is press? Can I possibly remove the bars all together? I hate to get rid of these speakers because they sound excellent.

The bars can be removed, but they help hold the trunk open.If you dont mind it droping on your head or back when you take your hands off.A couple of people went to struts insted of the bars, but they can be a PIA to get them right.

They help open the trunk, and keep it from slamming down on your head, I made 3/4" spacers for mine out of mdf
