Question Kicker Compvr series subwoofer.

Has anyone of you guys tried this woofer? I'm thinking of going with these(2 12's) with a Fosgate 500watt amp in a ported box. I was originally gonna use 2 JLaudio W3's but I'm on a budget and the Kickers fit right in there. If I need to spend maybe $100.00 more then I would but I don't really want too. Any suggestions people, I want to know if anyone here uses these woofers or heard anything about there sound quality. Thanks.

Oh streeteffectz if your reading this thread I have a Question for you or anyone else who knows about stereo equip:

Since our decks can hold double din units, I was wondering instead of me going with a double din unit(because most of them aren't detachable)could I go with one single din cd unit and right below a single din cassette deck unit? The cassette deck unit would be a sony with a cd changer added to it and the CD din would be a Pioneer unit. Is this possible or no can do?

I would suggest checking out conceptconcept.com I have one mid to high end 12 in and a 1200watt class d amp, both from concept. I am blowing away people with 4 12's in their cars. Go for quality not quantity, It will make your install alot cleaner and in my case much much louder than the avg person with 2 or 3 or 4 12's in their set-up, taking up way too much trunk space. If you want to go all out concept has a 15 and 18 in speaker that put out a heart stopping 8000Watts. I wouldn't suggest that size but that will give you an idea of the quality, hardly anyone has a quad coil sub (concept was the first, MTX next, but they are still too powerful to put in a regular competition against dual and single coil subs.)

Post what you decide to grab and the results.

The CompVR's give you some good bang for the buck. Maybe not the best in SQ but, great bass. I think you will be happy with them and save some coin to boot.

i would agree that the kicker comps are a pretty decent sub fo r the price... and ResidualFreedom i find it hard to believe that your 1 12 is out performing people that have 3 or 4 12's... since spl is usually a result of subwoofer surface area X linear excursion.. meaning more subs usually mean more spl... now you may have better sq depending on which subs those people are using...but any 3 or 4 mid grade subs will out perform one sub of the same size 8 days a week...

as for your 2 din setup... WHY??? i mean why would you want to run a sony and pioneer din in the same slot.. that would mismatch and look kind of tacky... my suggestion would be to run a cd player or tape deck w/ cd changer in the trunk and then maybe a 1 din eq right above or below the cd or tape player... or maybe put a monitor in there... but if you must i am sure it can be done... you would have to use one unit as the master and it would have to have the capability to accept aux audio... and then the other one would just feed into that one.. or you could have a switch of some sort and switch back in forth...

Actually, I had my setup in a 99 s-10, a large box in the back of the cab but didn't cut into the bed. 1 12inch speaker from concept, my cap. line driver, and at the time I was usung a Phoenix Gold M50 ( supposedly 50 watts by 2, I actually was measuring 715.8 watts peak [if you would like to know how to measure watts coming directly out of your amp check www.conceptconcept.com and go to the technical questions section]) I was getting 141.6 DB and I beat three people who had 2 subs installed and one guy who had four subs in an old s-10. I didn't win the competition I lost to a guy with the exact same truck as mine, who had a custom made box, holding 8, yes EIGHT, PPI 12" subs. He hit 142.4db. During the building of my system I jumped over 5db by making a custom box. Anyone can put alot of speakers in their car and get alot of bass, that is the quantity issue. I would rather spend more money on the quality part was my point.

It looks like you only have one speaker in your setup as well, but with a huge cap, and all of the add-ons, you should be able to beat at least an avg set-up with a few JL W3's.

Next time check out the products b4 you try to cut them up, Concept was formed buy some of the top people leaving, MTX, PhoenixGold and Coustic. They were tired of making low end car audio and were looking to form an eliete product. Consequently they did.

hey ResidualFreedom dont get me wrong i am not knockin concept but i dont see one speaker out performing 3 or 4 speakers... I mean even if you put one jl 12w7 (pretty much one of the baddest speakers on the market) or the idmax 12 up against 3 or 4 jl 12w3's or even 3 or 4 idq 12's... given the same air space and same box construction the setup with 3 or 4 speakers will kill the setup with one speaker... i would have to see it to believe it.... and so far i have yet to see it...

the four subs I beat was a guy who literally threw 2 x two sub boxes in the back of his cab in his truck, and ran both pairs off two different amps. So there was two JL's and two others ( not sh**ty quality, something like PPI or MTX, not SONY EXPLODE quality, higher than that), but honestly it was a horribly ugly install, litterally thrown in there hours b4 the comp. But it was still four subs and I beat him by over 4 db. But he was in the class over 300watts and because of my Phoenix Gold M50 I was rated at 50 watts (I was getting over 700watts, PG used to underrate their amps crazy with the M seriese) and fell into the class with 0-160 watts. I won my class and beat many more in the other classes but due to low wattage I was unable to qualify in the higher class all of the scores were posted people could see total score and the class winners.

Theres a reson why JL are expensive, because your not just paying for the name but a damn good quality sub as well... Don't be fooled just because jl still uses the foam surround, check out the v2 series, with the stamped basket, and the size of there tinsel leads... i COULD GO =ON FOR HOURS, BUT i GOTS TO GO TO SLEEP... I will inform you later so check back ... Fosegate.... your paying for the name... don'y take my word... look at the cap. and copper coils inside a Fosegate amp... then look at a JL Audio amp, you don't need to be a tech. to figure this one out... Late...
