Kenwood DDX8017 on the way

I just ordered the new Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 and it should arrive in 3-4 days. Pictures are soon to follow. Just thought I would let everyone know it's finally been released.

"The new Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 is the world's first aftermarket automotive head unit to feature both SRS WOW and SRS Circle Surround Automotive technologies, providing audio post-processing enhancements and in-vehicle surround sound. The DDX8017 is a 6.5" wide dual in-dash monitor with DVD, WMA, MP3, Sirius satellite and HD Radio capabilities in addition to delivering the industry's leading digital audio enhancement, WOW and the industry's most immersive in-vehicle surround sound experience, SRS CS Auto."

i take that back.. i believe the avn does have surround and many more features that the ddx does not have.. ex.. harddrive, navi, 5v preout, and a steeper price tag...

I'm partial to the Kenwood myself. I have had some problems with eclipse headunits in the past.

I will post pics ASAP this unit should sound great, because I'm also installing the two sets of the new Infinity Kappa components (one set in the front doors one in the rear) and they are running of an amp, so we will see.

Thats funny you say that because I got one of the first units released nationwide. Ahh the benefits of being a wholesaler.

I will, I've read the new 8017 has some different menu and background choices that are better looking.

Sorry it took so long to get pictures! However it ended up taking about two days to get the system finished. I will post what few I have and more later(i've been swamped and its 100+ degrees outside).

Pictures were done in a hurry btw.
Enclosure There is an insert that covers the amps/plexiglass, It's just not carpeted yet.

There are two amps, the blue one is a Massive 1500.1 and the one above it is a Massive 25.4 I have been very impressed with both amps.

I love the tweeters, using two sets of components has really helped maintain a good balance between the bumps and the mids.

Overall the dash piece fits pretty well. I am a perfectionist however and I wish that the fit was a little better, but when your in the car unless your looking for it you can't really tell.

in this pic, it looks like its slightly mis-aligned to the right, and its noit flush with the rest of the dash. looks like it slightly sticks out more.

It does you are correct. I'm not completely satisfied but overall I'm very pleased.

I like the controls of the radio alot, but don't get me wrong there is a little learning curve. However I'm starting to get the hang of everything.

No I understand completely I'm sure the piece will turn out great, it will just need some TLC like any other dash kit. Good luck with it though, let me know how it turns out especially with the carbon fiber.

I'm sure they are using real carbon fiber and not just the sticker stuff correct? Are they laying the mat themselves or just cutting a piece to fit?

I think you kit is off because of the HU that you are using. Ive seen pics of that kit in other cars & they were not like that.

That kit looks terrible, you need to get that fixed. Who put that in? If a professional installer did that he needs to get a new profession!

Geez it doesn't look that bad, like I said I'm not quite done with it. Did you ever think that maybe it was the dash kit and not the installer?

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the 8017 has 5v preouts also. hey jputt, i was wondering how come you installed the tweeters on the door itself and not in its oem position? i have a cl-s and mine's mounted above the door panel, is it not the same in the TL? what will you do to fix the problem of it not being flush with the dash?
