Just out of curiosity.........

I listen to a lot of Hip hop and R&B. I have a bandpass box in my trunk and I'm really tired of it. Everything sounds too loose. I want tight bass but boomy bass without it sounding sloppy.

Basically what I want to know is should I go ported or sealed?

What kind of subs are you using and how much power is going to them? Brand and size. What are the dimensions of the enclosure? Rear enclosure and ported enclosure dimensions? Port length? Dual or single reflex? With this info I will help you determine your problem and solution, thanks.

For tight bass...go with sealed. Bandpass & ported boxes take a lot of tuning to make them sound good, but you need to have subs that are meant for sealed enclosures.

Based on the specs of the amp and subs, I would build the seale box to 1 cubic foot per sub and wire each sub to a 2 ohm load and one sub per amp. Each sub would get their 500 watts which is a little over RMS, but half the peak power. If you are unsatisfied with the sound you will be well within range for the specs to add a port. Good luck.
