Just got my system installed...kinda disappointed
So...I had a JL 10w7, JL 500/1, and Alpine 9855 HU installed the other day. First things first...the sub doesn't fit properly in the enclosure that I have. There is about a 1/4" gap all around, and I don't know if that effects anything. Perhaps it affects this...
Secondly, if I open the trunk and listen to the sub, it sounds like the sub is rattling on the inside. Is that due to the gap from the enclosure?
Thirdly, I have no idea how to work this HU, so I don't have any of the settings propely set-up.
Lastly, I can't even play the HU at volume 4 without the trunk and upper deck vibrating like hell. And honestly, it sounds like ****. I don't know what to do. I'm just really upset right now because I dropped a lot having my system swapped from my last car to this one, and it just sounds like pure ****. Can anybody help me??

I'll try to answer this in the same order you posted.
1st'ly-how do you know there is 1/4" gap all around? are you talking about all around the sub cutout?? If you can tell this when the sub is ALREADY installed in the box then it is leaking air. Leaking air is not good b/c the bass isn't tight.
2nd'ly-your sub is rattling on the inside when you open the trunk? maybe if you post pictures of your setup i'll know what you're talking about.. rattling on the inside of what? rattling inside the box? do you have plexiglass on your enclosure?
3rdly-you don't have a manuel? im sure someone here can give you a few pointers. I have an older alpine model than yours. you just have to play around with it a bit.
lastly-vibrating trunk is a normal thing if you have a 10w7 or any powerful sub for that matter! So don't fear! those subs are massive! you should've known before hand that your sub is going to hit really hard. To minimize this, you'll have to dynamat your car or use other sound deadening. on my car (1st gen TL) one of the rattling came from the license plate so what I did was i put a sponge (dish washing sponge) and placed it behind the plate and voila! Okay well my trunk still rattles but it helps LOL

well i have the same HU, yes, its complicated for the fact that it has 10billion settings and i don't think i have mine totally fine tuned but...
1. have you properly set the gains on the amp? like starting it with them all the way down then gradually bringing them up?
2. have you set up your crossovers?
3. if you push the knob in, you'll get a sub vol control, 0-15
4. the lower left button if you push it once a basic menu come up, if you hold the button for a few sec a more complex menu for the crossovers etc will come up.
5. Also, not sure how much this may effect it but the HU can be set for 2 way or 3 way, but that switch is under the HU
6. When i first clicked her on, everything was real soft and quiet so you have to have your amp all jacked up.
This HU is not anything like the stocker so read the manual, i am still doing so, a lot of settings.
