JL Audio System

Here is what I have right now.
-JL 500/1
-JL 12w7
-JL 300/4

My question is what speakers for the front and back doors would work best for what I have right now? Money isn't really an issue, but something that is optimized for the 300/4 amp that I have.

My favorite components to date are the Boston Z6 and the JL Audio ZR650-CSi. Give either of these sets a grip of power and nothing else compares.

Great choice in audio gear. From my experience the 12W7 could use a bit more power than a 500/1.

There are tons of great speakers out there. A lot depends on how much you want to spend. The Phoenix Gold speakers that are getting great reviews are only around $100. Then you can go easily to over $1k for Rainbows, Zapco, Hertz and several others. The Rainbow Germaniums are a great speaker that will run in the $400-500 range. I have not heard the Boston or JL that uncald recommends but if he is recommending them, they are sure to be very good indeed. If you can, find a shop and listen, listen, listen to see what sounds good to you. Good luck

Well I'm mainly looking for a set of components and 2way's that would fit the 300/4 with optimal power. I could play them at full power and the speakers would be okay

I agree with AcuraX2. You can get all kinds of recommendations from people. But, you're using your own ears in the end. The best option is to listen to some speakers with your own music.

I don't know if you would know, but can you explain the difference between the ZR, C5, XR, VR, and TR series?

So many JL heads in here :\.

I hate JL. They're good stuff, BUT, there are way better for the money.
and +1 on the more power to your W7, give that thing a 1000/1

OP, if you have the money, Rainbow Germaniums or Hertz MLK165 Mille-series would be best choices... imho..

Would the Rainbow or Hertz be the best bet for the 300/4 amp? I'm guessing 75w to each speaker.

The only thing bad that anyone ever has to say about JL is that it's expensive. And it's not like you can't find good deals on used JL gear, just like anything else.

Sure there are other options for the price, but no one ever hates on the quality.

Why would you "hate JL" just based on the prices? Just don't buy it then--there's no reason to feel that passionate about it.

You know we love you wong but the capn's got a point. We won't cane you if you retract your HATE statement.

I love JL Audio amps and speakers. My reason is because I've been selling and installing car audio professionally for over 10 years. JL Audio has been the most consistantly impressive car audio brand throughout their stretch. Aside from the Cleansweep . I would say that my second favorite car audio giant is Pioneer. I'm not a guy who has installed a few times. I specialize in high end cars and high end expectations. SO THERE!

You're right, HATE may be too nice. I wish the company will go out of business. jk
JL is a good brand, but for what it's worth, you can find a handful of companies out there of higher quality, at the same price of a lower quality JL product. But if you have the money, by all means go for it.

If you're using an aftermarket HU, the 300/4 would be nice for either one of those sets, that is, if you go active. If you're running passive, I would reccommend at least 150w clean rms per side. Anywhere between 125-175 should be fine, you won't be able to hear the difference between 125w and 150w to your ears.

I'm running the Hertz HSK165's, passive, giving each side 320w rms, gains set conservatively. Havn't checked with a DMM, but if I were to guess, they're probably getting around 175w RMS, and much more leeway so that they have the power whenever they need it. I love these speakers, midbass is a beast, as well as my Hertz HCX's in the rear doorsgetting 100w rms a side.

I havn't had to listen to the MLK's in a car, but in the showroom at a local Hertz Dealer,, these things are amazing. I find the HSK's far above others [Bostom Pro's....Alpine Type-X Pro's... ], comparable to the Rainbow SLC line, but the MLK's are on another level, of its own.

Nice choice I have a 12w7 also powered by a 500/1. In the sealed box it wasnt so great. But in a ported box the 12w7 comes alive.

I'm running it off the stock navi with Mercman harness. So I still don't really know which speakers to get that will push 75 watts from the 300/4 amp.
