JL Audio CleanSweep

JL Audio CleanSweep Available May 2005

Has anybody heard about this? I did a quick search and nothing was returned. Word is that it will retail for around $400.

It might help with a lot of headaches out there for those of us who want to keep the stock HU but build up the rest of the audio components. Especially for those trapped with the "premium" integrated systems.

The Clean Sweep is actually the realization of a product a/d/s/ prototyped 10 years ago.

It takes speaker level, single ended preamp level (a la TSX), or balanced (a la Lexus) preamp signals.

It also takes in one stereo signal as an AUX.

It runs the signals into an analog-to-digital converter. Then it performs DSP processing to the signal to EQ it, to cross it over, and gives you preamp outs and a remote volume control.

It's about the size of a shoebox, but a bit longer (20"??)

It's big claim to fame is that it's automatic - put in the pink noise disc and press the button. How good THAT will sound is anyone's guess. The EQ is sold as a way to reverse the internal equalization of some OEM Hu's ( Bose). Since the TSX has none and the TL seems to have it external, that's not a huge deal for them, IMO.

Also, as far as I can tell, the EQ is fixed... many of the OEM systems change their EQ and compression and such at higher volumes (like VW, Audi).

I am interested to see how this piece does in the market... as I don't believe they are making any money at $400 retail. I see it as a way to try to regain amp sales in cars with tough HU's... but I can tell you the guy at JL I talked to about the TSX 6 months ago was ignorant as hell about the car.

Anyone suggesting it is doing so in a vacuum as well - nobody seems to have any track record with it.

What year is your TL? It may be totally unneeded.

I think this thing is primarily aimed at GM Bose systems with the EQ in the HU...

I suspect that the installer doesn't have an oscilloscope, doesn't know how to tell the difference between balanced differential and single-ended preamp outputs, and may be using a low-end speaker LOC on a preamp signal that doesn't need one.

Not that this has ever happened before : )

Do you happen to know what he ended up using? By the way, did you order those seatbelt pads?

Anyone get this yet? I'm sure it would help out our XM Radio and our CD quality.

Having heard a 2004 TL with aftermarket amps, I can tell you that the OP of the HU is not your problem. The speakers and the OEM amp are your problem.
