Intermittent lowbeam headlights, 02 TL

I have an 02 TL with about 48k on it. The other night I was running errands in the dark and pulled into a parking spot and noticed the right low beam was out. Restarting the car to leave the lights where fine. After the next stop, the right headlight was out again powering up the headlights. I turned the lights off and then on again and the left light was out instead.

Later that night in the garage, turning the lights on and off, most of the time I get no lights, sometimes the left side fires, less often the right side fires, and mayby one in 20 tries I get both lights.

The next day, I later noticed when the car is cold the lights usually both fire the first try. Once they have fired, turning off/on usually gives me no lights. When I get one it's usually the left side.

It may mean nothing, but the night before we had our first serious snow storm (Buffalo, NY) and I went thruway cruisin after mounting the Nokian Hakkapeliittas on the car. I was running through up to a foot of fresh powder for more than an hour at the speed limit and I had snow packed in some tight places.

Obviously it's not the bulbs, there nice and blue when they fire. It's not the switch on the control stalk, all else is normal (fogs, markers, High beams). So far I have tried reseated the headlight relays and swapped out the fuzzes to no avail.

I'm thinking it's the ballists, a relay, moisture or the computer. Any ideas anyone?

you gessed right, it does sound like the balasts, since you were driving thru the snow, the balasts must have gotten wet. Replace the balasts and see what happens, if it doesn't work, return the balasts, buy a new HID kit and see if the lows work. If no, then it has to do either with the wiring or the computer.
