Install Masters! How would you do this? 56k beware
I am working on a project to relocate my AudioControl 4.1 from the rigged spot it is in now, to a new custom location.
Now:
So, I ordered the cupholder piece from the 6 speed:
Here is what the 4.1 looks like on its own:
I envision something along these lines:
So, I'm thinking about using my Dremel to cut the hole out and make it fit, but I want this to look perfect, with top notch finish quality. How should I fill the gaps that will be left on either end? Is there some technique to the Dremel that will let me make extremely clean, straight cuts?

Isn't there going to be a problem with the depth of the EQ being more than that of the cup holder? have you taken apart your center console to determine where the top of the tunnel sits? This may cause you to reconsider, since I'm not sure that this will let your unit sit flush with the cupholder piece.

Yeah, I've already taken it apart, and the clearance of the EQ really isn't going to be the problem. Fortunately, the power plug on the EQ is on the lowest part and since the cupholder is naturally angled upwards, the RCA plugs will fit fine. It's the depth of the new cupholder That will be a problem. (on the right in this picture)
The bottom support for the current cupholder is actually part of the big plastic piece that comprises the majority of the entire center console piece. I'm going to have to do some serious cutting on it, but it looks like that part is workable. All the screw holes and clips for the new cupholder are in the exact same spots and won't be affected by modifying the depth.

J Mac,
I just came up with a bright idea (I think).
Put the EQ as far to one end of the whole as possible. Then use the open end to put some aux. input plugs.
O'yeah, I think they might have ripped you on the cup holder. I can't remember paying that much for mine. But then again, I may have got it free .

That's a good idea... I'll check it out.
I can't say I'd be surprised if I got ripped. Though the manager bent the rules for me since the certificates they give out are only good for 'service' expenses these days.

Why dont you put it where I put my EQ? I think it's the better place. I had to give up my cigarette lighter plug and the "Not an ashtray" thing but I have another plug in the center console and the "Not ashtray, not coin holder thing" was just taking up space. I went out and got another shift console from a junk yard in case I need to go back to stock.

I like my 'not an ashtray' too much... I know its weird.
Have you worked with ABS before? I'm thinking that Nicky Pass has the best idea so far, but instead of putting the plastic on the inside (because it is going to be too difficult to make any cuts I make look 'perfect') I would put it on the outside, making a small border around the eq.
I just don't know if I'll be able to cut it well with a Dremel or jigsaw or if I should get a plastics shop to do it for me after I make a cardboard template.

Dont talk to me ... you wouldnt understand half of what I say anyway ... bl^5 talked to me about this idea a while back. Now that I actually saw the pics. I think it's hard to get it perfectly done. You can try to make the square hole to have the same width as the oval with a circle cut out (on the left) as the right side. Then make a plate that fits exactly in the new hole

(_________) with a rectangular cut out for the EQ. I hope you know what I mean.

Ron,
You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of something like that would ya?
I'm really interested in making this look good... though it will never be to your level!
