Exclamation Infrared Question

Hello datmrman and I are getting ready to use a new technology hd media player instead of an conventional dvd player in our cars. We both have dom's unit and pie or usaspec. Here is our thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138906

On the Vantec AVOX unit there is an external infrared port. The plugs are form left to right; the USB connector, the 5 Volt DC power adaptor, the dual purpose plug for 5.1 digital audio output or an external remote control IR receiver, the component output, and finally the composite video output. The external IR receiver is not included.

I called the company and they stated that the supplier hasn't stated when if at all this IR receiver will ship. So I'm getting antsy and want to find it elsewhere. Does anyone have experience purchasing a IR receiver similar to what I need. I want it so I can install the unit out of sight and be able to control it using the remote

Have you tried using something like this?

You could probably just attach a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. This came with my car dvd player.

You could try this one:

Single Infrared Emitter

There are a couple more on this website also.

This one might be better:

Infrared Sensor Extension

I'm not sure if the other one I posted would work. It's an emitter, not a receiver. You could try either one. The emitter might act as a reciever (I don't see why it shouldn't). My best suggestion would be first to ask a friend that has a dvd player in their car to borrow theirs. Chances are that theirs came with one also.

Just ordered this one, hopefully it will work. To tell you the truth the description on this one was clear and stated exactly what I wanted to do. I'm sure there were other that are cheaper that would do the same thing........they just didn't say so.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, let me know if it ends up working.

I am using that player inside my tsx, works great. Two things need to careful of, Heat and power. Since it is a HD unit, you must be careful of the Power input. If you can find a regulated power supplied and make sure it does not spike up on starting your engine will be nice.

Second is the heat. careful where you put the HD at. currently i have it at the center pocket. but i am thinking of moving it to under passenger seat. since there is a outlet for a/c. I have try to use my dvd's ir extension and it works no problem.
