Informal Poll .. Best subwoofer
So I have decided to go with a sub first and after listening to some various subs I have found the Polk Momo series, the Fosgates had good low end and of course I liked the JL's but I dont know if i want to spend that much money on a sub.
For low end car filling sound what is your suggestion..

Don't listen to me.
I've had Kicker, Fosgates, Kenwood, Cerwin Vega, Bazooka, MTX, Pioneer and Alpine. It all depends on how much power you are willing to give it, even then everyone has different opinions on what sounds the best.
I think the best sound comes from Alpine subs. I think that the Alpine E-type are good at 500 watts, any higher and I'd go with the R-type.
But in the doors I'd go with infinity.

The best subs I've owned (SQ wise) are the Boston Acoustics Pro Series 12.5 LF's. I've got two of them in my wife's '99 Civic Si with a Rockford Fosgate Power bd-1000 powering them. I've yet to do any audio work on the TSX, but I'll most likely go with the Boston's again.

Also, the music is for yourself. you need to know what you like to hear. Personally i prefer tight bass and not so much the deep low bass. so, in my case, a non-proper designed sealed box will sound better to me than a non-proper designed ported box.
btw, regardless of what people say. Dont go for the bandpass box. They are loud and pretty... but only loud at a certain freq with very narrow bandwith. so, unless you just want to be heard on the street and dont really care about the good music, dont even consider any bandpass box.

I'm kind of a bitch in that I want both Which is why i think a ported would be the best comprimise between a sealed and a bandpass. I like it when bass hits like thump thump thump but I also love 808 bass drum vibrating the shit out of your car.. so i figure a nice sub in a ported box with a good amount of RMS should do the job

My reference SQ subwoofer is the Illusion Audio Nd12 (or 15 if you need the extra low-end extension).
Lowest out-of-band harmonics I've ever heard. Low group delay. High transient response. Just sounds invisible.

I used to be an IASCA member and had a really crazy car system and the BEST subs I found were the Focal Utopia 27VX I had a pair powered by Zapco C2k-6.0x- now that was GOOD bass. FWIW they were in a sealed enclosure, 1.5" MDF reinforced with fiberglass- as much fun as those days may have been I am glad I am over it. I am thinking of doing a little something like a lot of you mention here(in another thread) in my TSX when it shows up- replace the speakers- does anyone know if you can fit a pair of focal 5WS subs where the 6x9's are in the rear deck?? Heck you could possibly do a quad set in a little V shaped enclosure! This could be fun and really not all that expensive!
