Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Don't fit?
Has anybody tried installing the Infinity Kappa Perfect Componets in a 2nd Gen CL/TL?
I took my '01 CL-S to an import shop in San Francisco to get the install and they said that they don't fit.
They said that they won't clear the glass with that magnet even with cutting the metal.
I thought that I had seen others on the forums that had installed this set up front in the doors.
Any thoughts?
If anybody has installed these can you please tell me how it was done?
Thanks

I apologize if this is a dumb question....but...
If I placed a MDF spacer ring, that would be placed on top of the regular metal panel?
Then, would that speaker still clear the door panel?
I just have never installed speakers in a door and don't know how tight those areas are.
It would be funny if I told the audio install "professionals" how to do the install.
Thanks for the information and I go back to them with that.

Just noticed your in San Francisco.
How much is this place charging you?
If you'd like a professional install (though not the cheapest), Sound Innovations in hayward is a nice place. They're one of the few audison/hertz dealers here in Norcal, too
I had them install my front door speakers for me since I didn't have any tools to cut my door , and was lazy to run the speaker wires through the grommet.

Yeah I am in San Francisco.
I called these guys again and they said that with the MDF spacer it still won't fit.
They said the magnets are just too large and if I put the spacer on that then the speaker will hit the door panel.
I already opened these speakers and can't return them so I am kind of stressed out with this.
They weren't charging me a whole lot of the install because I was getting my whole system installed and then putting some stuff in my girlfriend's Accord.
For the componets they quoted me $75 but that wasn't with the mods so I am not sure.
Did you put componets in your fronts?

Yeah i have components in my fronts
I paid ~200$ for Sound innovations to cut my door, make spacers, run the custom balun harness from HU to trunk, and the bitch work of running the wires through the door grommet.
If the magnets is what's the problem (too wide), then there's no going around cutting your door...unless you get a speaker with a smaller magnet

Shit! Sounds promising.
Well, unless someone can verify that they installed this set (6 1/2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1) in a second gen CL/TL then I think I am out of luck.

Or...
Where could I find the stock mounting depth in the front doors?
That way if I purchase new componets I can make sure I won't make the same mistake twice.
I searched but maybe I have weak search skillz.

Take that number and add 3/4" to it, if that number is greater than your speaker mounting depth, then you'll be fine.
Can you take a measurement of your magnet diameter, and mounting depth in mm?
I was able to install some hertz hsk components into my friends 2G TL door without any cutting; only 3/4" spacers.
Mounting depth to the hsk's: 72mm depth
Magnet diameter: 90mm
edit: err ignore all that. just looked at your spec sheet. as long as your magnet diameter is less than 90mm. You'll be fine with a 3/4" spacer
I can make spacers for you and help you with the install if you need

I am at work right now but this afternoon I will measure those magnets to see if they fit the criteria (diameter).
That's awesome!
I appreciate your help with all this.
So you think that with the 3/4 inch spacer there will still be enough room in the interior of the door panel that it will still go back together?
That's awesome!

LMK if you need the spacers. I'm building my new box for my subs probably later tonight if not tomorrow. I THINK I have some extra wood, hopefully big enough pieces.

Right on!
That was just the information I was looking for.
I would think that the doors on the CL/TL should be similiar if not identical.
Would you need to see the speakers to make the rings?
Cost?

Do you remember what kind of componets your friend installed in the TL?
If I knew I could look up the spec's and compare the two.
Also, would it mess things up if the driver was so close to the door?
Thanks

Just need the dimentions; Inner diameter, and outer diameter
Umm.. just pay for the wood? and gas to deliver
or you can pick up. I work in the city mission district mon/wed/fri's

Of course it'll mess up if it hits your door
, but 90% it won't hit it
I have (and love) Perfects and have tried to find a way to get them in my doors. They have huge baskets. Nowhere can I find the mounting depth. All spec sheets say N/A.
nf3d0149ab can you measure yours? I can't as they are still in my Landcruiser

The kappa's is only 3mm deeper than the hertz hsk. Isn't much, should be fine
I guess inner diameter 129mm, outer diameter 160mm should do the trick for the spacer

Sure
it'll be a few days maybe. Whenever i get off my ass and cut my wood for my new box (not really in a rush, still waiting for my 0ga wire to get here in the mail sometime this week)
I should have it by next weekend, though

Great!
No rush, I have been waiting for months and it's 90 at 4am so I am in no hurry to remove my Kenwood nav & the Perfects from the Landcruiser.
Let me know how much you need shipped to Phoenix 85044 & I'll paypal you.
Thanks!

Holy crap!!!!
Man, you are the shit!
I apologize because I caught up with a friend after work and slammed a bunch of beers after work.
I got my manual and yeah that is almost identical to mine.
All the numbers match though.
Man, I would be so greatful for you help on that.
I work on 16th & Kansas in Potrero Hill.
Monday - Friday until 5:30 so your location is prime.
Just let me know and I could easily meet up with you.
Thanks again.

Whenever you can because this is a huge help.
What kind of box are you building?
If you need some help with that....don't even know what I could do....but let me know.
Those boxes that "uncald4" puts together are sick because you still retain your trunk.

. My current 15" is in a ported box to spec, but for my two 10's I'm building a sealed box 1.85cu ft so that I can actually have a trunk to use. Beastly though! Each 10 can and will handle more power than my current 15". I'll be running them at 1ohm, feeding them ~800w each

Wow. I'd love to see pictures of that build.
Hey, just started building my box tonight. It looks like I only have enough extra wood for 1 spacer.
If you guys are for sure you want those spacers, I'll run to H.D. to pick up another piece of wood sometime. LMK

here's the progress on the box (middle pieces is just extra bracing since these 10's are beasts!!)
1.9cu ft after displacement
Just gotta put on front and back piece, and cut the holes now :o

and the 28lb each beasts

Do you know where that is?
I'm not too familiar with SF aside from the mission.
I work at Santos & Urrutia (intern) Structural Engineers
I'll pick up a sheet of wood tomorrow after work, hopefully I'll remember!
My box is done! Just gotta work on my amp rack now, hopefully put it all in the car by Sat. and make you two's speaker spacers too

You work pretty close to my location....like 6 blocks maybe.
I like that you incorporated the emblems into your box design.
What's up with the Rugrats?
Thanks for your help again. Appreciate it.

I might get to making the spacers today. Working on the amp rack right now, running a new 0ga through the car later.
I wish I had a full garage to work in
. What you saw a few posts back is my work area lol.I'm moving to Fremont next month though, and it has a full garage for me to work.. and park in!
