A 10" will fit... That's what your current stock Bose is. IMO you could go with a JL 10" and it'd sound great. BUT if you wanted more SPL i'd go for 2 JL w6s or Audiobahn, Eclipse, RockfordFosgate.... Can't go wrong with any of those.

No, our factory sub is a 9" low profile sub. i think its Rockford Fosgate that currently makes an open air sub with thoes specs that some people are using.

While we are on this topic, I have a question. It seems like everyone just replaces their stock sub, but I still dont think, Im going to get that car vibrating bass so I was going to put my box in (3 x 10's) MTX 8000 series and MTX 8100D amp, and wanted to know, if any of you's put in a box? Did you guys disconnect the stock sub or left it on? Or can I put one of my 10 in MTX woofers in place of the gay Bose with 8100D amp, and I'll just turn the Gains down.

I was looking underneath the rear deck of my '03 TL-S... there's a metal bracket across the sub that appears to be welded on. The rmb8 would have to be **really** low profile.

Has anyone replaced the stock sub w/ success? I don't want to take up space with a box.

Do a search using my user name since I am lazy to look for the post. I did successfully replace the stock sub with Kicker RMB8.
You need a 1/2" spacer.

A word of warning. The bass will be a lot better than the stock sub but if you want the bass to pound your seat. Don't do it !!! It will not hit as hard as the sub in a sealed box.

Cheers !!!

Yes, it is a mib-base sub but it responds pretty well in low frequency. It just does not hit hard enough.

Cheers !!!

Hey drcookie, thanks much for the info.... I'm not interested in bone rattling bass, just better than what Acura provided, so the Kicker should work for me.

why has no one tried using the illusion audio 10 in sub... it has the same inverted design as our stock sub and with a 3/4 in mdf spacer should fit like a glove... i have even seen pictures of one guy putting a 10w7 in the stock location with a fiberglass box built on the back side... so basiclly anything is possible with enough imagination and a little bit of knowledge...

I got hold of an Illusion Audio 10" sub through ebay last year and it has been sitting in the storage since then. With a new born baby onboard, I just could not find any free time to spend on the car anymore.

The 10" Illusion Audio is definately taller and larger than RMB8. If I need to install it, I would have to cut the stock hole a little bigger, make a spacer and shave the stock cover off. It would be interested to see if the sub would hit any harder.

Cheers !!!

ILLUSION 8iN

I have an Illusion 8" installed without making a space. It fits perfectly just by filing dow the cross member just below the sub hole opening. But like everyone is saying it doesn't hit hard enough, but it most definately better than the stock Bose. I won 2 units of Ebay. If anyone wants to buy it let me know. I will sell it for 1/2 the price what I paid for 2 plus shipping. I have a 12" in a box for the hard hitting. But can take the sub box out and still have the Illusion.

Hey thats a free air sub woofer, very few companys make free air subs now... meaning its a sub that doesn't require a box sealed or ported... If I were you, I would either keep the bose sub, not replace unless your willing to buy asome subs, not 12s or 15s but maybe two 8w3v2-d4s? that would sound awesome... plus if you have a sealed box with subs in, I would take out the factory sub up top, leave the grill, and use that as a bass port... YES!!! good idea... good idea...

Bye the way, I know what I'm talking about... I've been in this business for to damn long....(not proud of it either) but I do know my ****... If you want, I can piece out a system for you, depending on what kind of sound you would like...
