I need some common sub help

All i want is some more bass... maybe a 12 incher and an amp.. so what all do i need? Sub, box, amp, and wiring?? I mean it seems as though there is a HUGE range of pricing on these things.

I dont want to spend a lot at all, and i have a buddy who makes custom boxes so that is covered.

Please help me and make me more wise

For the sub, I would go with the JL w6's.

Your first 3 choices will do just fine. The last one, the all in one combo, will die on you way b4 u get your $$'s worth. Cheaper is not the best way to go when dealing w/ audio equipment, especially subs........

Sub choices kind of varie depending if you want SPL (sound pressure level ; loudness) or SQ (Sound quality)
For an entry level setup, a cheap way to get
SPL - Type R
SQ - Image dynamics IDQ

and I have a 4ga rockford amp kit used for sale (check my black market post ) minus the remote wire (which can be had for ~3$ at autozone)

Hey TLsvlt, do you have a budget? That would help alot in choosing what you can get.

I would strongly advise against your choice of amp. Pyle is really cheap and doesn't sound very good. Buying a good amp is probably the most important component of your system. Even if you have a really good sub, a cheap amp will hold you system back and may even destroy you sub. If you spend money on a better amp now and an average sub, you can always upgrade your sub later when you have some cash and have a great system.

As for subs, Wong05n made a good point about SPL (Raw Loudness) vs. Sound Quality. What kind of music do you listen to most?

If you really just want some loud boom, then you would want to go for SPL. Subs that are more on the SQ end of the spectrum favor more accurate sound reproduction over volume. So with an SQ sub you will feel all the punches of the subs as much cleaner and the notes much warmer. You will sacrifice some volume, but honestly you will still be booming. With a larger budget you can get an SQ sub that will provide clean SPL.

^^best answer i have seen so far. Pyle of SH!T is what it is. trust me i had one

to help you the most we need to know

what kind of sound you want, do like rap, rock, jazz, pop?? (do you want loud or sound quality)??
what is your budget for everything?? ($100-$200 im guessing)

im guessing you dont need anything to win spl or sq contests. going off of what info you have given me and some edjumacated guesses, this is what i would do at that price range:

Kicker Sub

Kicker Amp

it will sound pretty good and will be loud too. at your price range there isnt much else you can buy that will last and be loud too. wiring is kinda generic but get monster rca cables or another good brand. hope this helps for now. 400w RMS should be plenty of bass for you if your looking for 1 12". if you want to spend a little more money a 15" would be possible and a little louder. not much tho. definetly deeper tho...

Thanks for the help guys...blind shooter, you hit the nail on the head. I really listen to rap, reggae, and bands like sublime, lol. I just want something that people will hear and that will make my car bump, but a clean bump. So i guess i want both SQ and SPL. Even though i want something loud, i dont want loud and shitty. Id sacrifice lod for quality.

Im thinkin im gonna get the stuff that blind suggested. Gotta find the money now lol.
