i need help!

i was playing my subs for awhile today pretty much all the way up and listening to the bass in a bunch of song i had on cd..i kept switching between them...and between 2 song sthe subs turn off!...i was panicking and i was guessing i blew a fuse...but the red light on the amp was still getting power so i thought i didnt...after about 10 mins the subs start working again but barely noticable..you have to touch it to know its moving...and then i turn the volume up and it suhuts off again...now when the subs came back they werent loud...could barely hear them...i was thinking the amp overheated and it was some type of safety feature..but the amp wasnt even hot...it was cool to the touch...i came back about 2 and 1/2 hr later and tried again...and the subs work very faintly..so i turn the bass knob up allittle and it shuts off again....so i dont know what to do...could it be the fuse? also there's a funny smell coming form back there...not a burning smell...altho it could be...but it doesnt smell like anyhting ive ever smelled burning...but thats been there since i had the subs put in about3 weeks ago...so what do you guys think it is?

Sounds like the amp crapped out or something vibrated loose and is barely touching. Maybe when the bass hits it vibrates something loose. How many amps do you have? Is this the only one experiencing this? Check the rca's and speaker level connections. Also check the connections at the terminals on the subs themselves. Make sue there are no stray strands of wire shorting across the - and + connections. Make sure the gains are set correctly or you can fry your amp. I'm not sure about the smell. Electronics give off a smell when they heat up but its not necessarily burning.

What kind of amp? What kind of subs and how are they wired?

hmmm, was the bass distorting, kicker does have a tendency to blow easily, but in your casue u say its the amp. I went through 5 L5s on all of the them the spider coil started to rip which was casusing distortion. I was gonna say check the wiring and gains, but install was done by streetz so theres no need for that. That smell i think is the tje woofer. Kickers do give off a smelll after playing them hard. My diamond audio gave like a sweet smell when I pushed it hard.

Swing by if you get a chance. That smell if from the amp being new and the electronics heating up, that's all, and is typical. As for the little to no sound coming from the subs, it could very well be the amp, and not necessarily because you were playing them too loud or for too long, but for the simple fact that electronics will be electronics, and **** happens. Never the less, stop by as soon as you get a chance and I'll be more than happy to check it out.
