I called BOSE Interesting info
Hey street can you or anyone else help me with this delimma?
I talked to a BOSE person on the phone about the stock system in the tl. while they did not reccommend doing anything to the stereo because of the warrenty but i was able to get this info from them
the subwoofer is 1/2 OHM and the amp is 100 watts
the rest of the speakers are 4 ohms and they are driven by a 12 watt per channel amp located inside the EQ unit.
they said the EQ unit is factory set to compensate for the TL specifically.
what i was wondering is if anyone knows if the 4 channel signal that comes from the HU before the EQ is preamp signal or not and where does the bass attenuation occur from when you turn up the volume? if i use the signals from the HU before the EQ will i get a preamp signal and will it not be affected bass wise when the volume is turned up
or should i use the speaker output after the EQ and use High to low level convertors for the signal to my amps?
i guess the sub signal comes from the eq unit but i can use my own xover and amp for the sub.
does anyone have a helms manuel that shows thease connections and their function?
oh 1 more thing.. where does the navi voice get plugged into? the headunit or the EQ unit? i dont mind using another speaker to play the navi voice through i just need to know where it hooks in.
thanks

I didn't bother with the Bose EQ. Ran the 8 Bose speaker wires to the 8 input wires on my 4-channel LOC. Then from the LOC ran the rear channels (tested front & rear, front does not have full range) to my EQ and then EQ to amps in trunk. All works and sounds great!

so are you saying that the front does not have full range from the deck? whats missing? low freq? if the rears are full range then i am assuming you used the 2 channels to run your eq then you have a fader or somthing to run a 4 channel amp and a sub out?
do you know by chance what is cut or boosted by the stock eq?
also do you know is anyone makes an adapter that will plug into the stock deck to get thease signals or did you have to splice into the 8 wires?
i found a company on the net that sells adapters speciffically for the JBL and Bose Stock stereos in many of the acuras but when i called them they said they haven't come up with an adapter for the 2000 and newer tl's and cl's yet and they get their stuff made for them from a company in florida.
how did you know what wires were + or - and what speakers? did you have a schematic? if so can you email me a list of the colors and their function?
1 final question, i think you said in an earlier post that you leave the bass and treble controls in the center position. does this eliminate the bass from getting attenuated when you turn up the volume?
thanks

I tried the front channel first, but I got no bass and bad sound using only the front. So I used the rear. From there 2 RCAs go to my Alpine parametric EQ/Subwoofer processor inputs (only has two). But the EQ has a 2 front, 2 rear and 2 sub outs. The front & rear go to my PG ZX475 4 channel amp (via RCA cables) and the sub's RCA cables go to my PG ZX400 amp that powers my sub.
You're right, there is no adapter currently made to interface with the Bose. I ordered one of those wiring harnesses that is supposed to work with the Acura Bose, but it did not. Didn't fit, so I sent it back. I spliced into the 8 spkr wires from the Bose and soldered them to the LOC. I have a Helm service manual so I got the colors there. I'll email them to you.
You can still use the Bass/Treble to get a little more sound, but I use the Alpine EQ, which has subwoofer volume control and EQ controls just for the sub, as well as the door spkrs, so I leave the Bose controls in the center. Plus my Phoenix Gold amps have crossover, bass and sensitivity controls so I can tune the sound.
Hope I answered your questions - let me know if you have others.
