How different is a new HU over the stock??

Is it worth giving up the indash changer and the steering controls?? It would be runnning through an EQ from either HU.

the signal coming off of the stock head unit is way too small. You would get better sound quality and higher signal coming out of an aftermarket headunit. Run that into the 4.1 for an even greater signal boost. The problem is, that i dont think that there is a kit for headunits in our cars. So therefore you would have to pay someone to build you something custom, probably out of fiberglass. Also, i think they sell adapter kits so you can keep your steering wheel volume control.

They do make a kit for our cars now...and I dont think it looks that bad. The 4.1 can boost the signal up to 13v I think and that alone is to much to put into my JL amp...at least thats what I was told. Now if they sold kits to keep the steering controls...that would change things...do you know who maks this?

Hey are you the guy I saw at walker dorpping off your car?

Heh yeah thats quite possible...I had all my stuff hooked up in a 01 cl on the stock HU and it sounded good as far as I remember...and now I am finaly getting around to installing itback into my 03...it has been out for over a year and I want it back. So now that they have this kit that dosent look to bad....I wanted to ask this again

it works kinda alright, several times it would not change the station, the infrared has to be pointed at the source rather directly, i used mine for about a week and gave up. the handheld remote is good enough.

Exactly, I would hate to be that person that bought the custom face plate for $200. However, just 6 months ago, you were forced to.

The one they used had a very thin piece that stuck right on the radio, kinda like the controls we use TVs, etc - little IR LED that sticks on the front of the unit. This one *may* have been a fiber optic to an LED b/c it was so small.
