Holy $hit It Works!!!!!!!!!
Dude, I don't know what the fvck I did to fvck it up and I don't know what the fvck I did to make it work. I got back from watching the Tigers get their a$$es whooped and decided to fvck around with my speakers. I pulled the doors apart and took off the electrical tape and put wire nuts on and it WORKED.
Ya Baby, I'm sooooo relieved.

LUCKY MAN!
You are one lucky dude, 03! You gave me one h&ll of a scare. I was up all night clacking out twenty page raps just to make sure that other people didn't end up shorting things out with these speakers that I had recommended...
Obviously you didn't "short" anything out, or you would have blown something.... either a fuse, or the HU outputs. It sounds like you had two "Opens" in both doors. How in the H&ll did you first attach the wires??? It sounds like you just wrapped bare wire around the speaker lugs and then taped them. Then when you slammed the driver's door, both wires came loose on both sides.???? But then that wouldn't kill the rear door speakers???? Maybe you did short out the head unit amp and it actually does have a current limit foldback circuit which went into protection mode. That's starting to sound more and more like the only scenario that makes sense. If so, I may have a better respect for Acura/Bose electronics. At least they spent the money to design in current limit protection to protect themselves against units coming back in from people blowing up the amp by changing out their crappy speakers...
Don't scare me like that again... Make sure that you make secure connections, either with crimp lugs and a PROPER crimp tool, or with solder and/or wire nuts for splices. BE SURE TO STILL INSULATE THE DOOR FRAME AND ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS AND THE SPEAKER TERMINAL STRIP so that you don't end up with the "short" that we first feared... Even foldback circuits can't hold the short forever...
Like I said, you are one lucky dude... how in the H&ll do you find time for work? Court, Tiger's games, dealership beer runs, speaker swapouts, speaker short outs, Top-end "trying for speedometer pegged" road runs, etc. etc... one lucky dude... You never did report back as to how the swap out work went and how you felt about the results...
Did you have any other things to add about the mounting of these speakers? Did they go in as straight forward as I had explained? And did you find the sound improvement to be worth the effort?
I'd like to hear somebody elses opinion on this cheap and easy mod. I'll be out of town on a road run Sat-Thur. Try to put out a quick post in the morning so that I can hear what your opinions of these speakers really are now that they are back up running...
I can't wait to get my baby out on the open highway... I'll come back with a road report. I just passed 950 miles today, so I think I'm ready to open her up. BUT PLEASE, NO TRANNY GRIEF, and NO TICKETS! I'm NOT as lucky as you in front of a judge...
Glad you're back up and livin' large... later!

Hey Southbound, First off I just want to say thanks. I didn't mean to jock your style but it sounded like you did a lot of research so I figured I would just follow your lead.
As far as how I originally hooked them up I used the wire connectors that came with the speakers and slipped the female ends on the speakers and stripped the wires, wrapped them together and electrical taped them. I think what happed is, when I put the door frame back on I rolled the window down and it pulled the negative wire end off the speaker terminal. The first time I looked the negative end was exposed, so I figured it touched the door frame and fryed something. I then put it back and thought it was secure but didn't realize it was the window going down that was causing the problem untill yesterday when I pulled the door panel back off and I noticed the same thing had happened and linked it to rolling the window up and down. When I rolled the window down it pulled the negative female end off the speaker leaving it sitting on the bottom of the door frame causing all of the speakers not to work. So I changed the electrical tape to wire nuts and crimped the female ends on the speaker real good. I even taped over them to assure this wont happen again. Holy $hit is all I could say yesterday when Music came from my door speakers. What a scare. I am so relieved.
Thanks alot for all your efforts and researching this easy to-do mod.
As for installation and worthiness. The speakers were very simple to install all I had to do is, like you said, cut the back out of the basket and the speaker slipped right in, put the screws in, bota bing bota boom. As for the sound improvement, WELL WORTH IT. It sounds much better especially when you turn it up all the way. It is a much cleaner crisp sound. I'm contimplating swapping out the back speakers as well. The place I bought the speakers from has 2 pair left and I can pick them up for $80.
Thanks alot Southbound, You da man!
