higher spl and ports...

I saw your install and I was impressed to say the least. I had a regluar box in my truck, and hit 129.8db I designed a crazy box and I jumped over 5db with the same setup. I am wondering, I had already designed a box to fit in the Acura 3.2 and It looks very similar to yours except I have a four inch port going straight back almost to the back of the box. I am using a Concept1200 watt Class D mono block with a 12 inch sub 6ohm DVC, the sub will handle the amp, on it's max ( I don't usually keep it close to max). I used a Phoenix Gold M50 for the other setup and I got a reading of 715watts out of it, with a final reading of over 140db after add-ons and tweaks. Could you explain why you have 2 4inch PVC tubes and Closed as your options? Why did you not go for a open port? Can you give me any heads up to look for in SPL? B\C that's where I'm heading. Any suggestions for where ti set up all of the gear, one slightly difficult part for placement is the remote gain for my amp. any suggestions? Sorry about all the questions. lol:wow:

first of all, thanks for the compliments. now on to your questions.

first off, i use winisd for modeling subs in various boxes. you can dnld it for free from termpro i believe. just go to www.google.com and search winisd. dnld the alpha version, which is the latest version. that way you can see what the box will do before you make it.

initially, i spoke to kicker and asked them for recommendations on a sound quality box, spl box and daily driver box. i gave them the dimensions i could work with and we decided that devising a removable port would make this possible. they gave me an option of how to do this, but i think this idea i came up with has worked much better!

that is why i have a vent that is closed off. that setup was for sq. then i had a port that simply went straight back and was a slotted port, for spl. the last one, dual 4" round ports is for daily driving, which is why it is tuned so low. The reason i went with dual 4" round ports is because there was no way i could make a slotted port long enough to be removable as well. i went with 2 round ports because the more port area you have, the less likely you will have port noise (huffing sound).

if you dont make your port removable, you will have to pick a port length that can accommadate your daily driving music listening needs and max spl possibilities. that can be a little tough if you love to listen to music instead of a one note wonder.

as for the remote, ck out my page on where i located him here

let me know if this helped ya out.

Re: higher spl and ports...

Amasing. I didn't know there was a program for speakerbox design. I am going to install my system tomorrow, I got my TL today- Yesterday- whatever. I am just going to install my sub, amp, fuse distro block, and a cap. Just to make sure, I thought I would ask, I am going to get to two input wires into the stock amp in the backseat. Splice into them with a ?????? (which goes from stripped wires to RCA cables/What is the name of this part). I know all the power and ground info I need unless you can tell me a prefered ground to use in the trunk area. And the remote - can I take it off the stock remote ?- all it needs is the signal to activate, correct? I don't need a certian size of wire. What size Gauge wire do use use for PWR and GRND? Thanks for all the Info!!

so your gonna get a high to low level converter...that is what the part is called. unless your amp has speaker level inputs. then u save money on that part.

depends on what pwr/gnd info you have on hand...remote wire? i didnt use any of the blose amp wires, so i cant say if they work or not. but i can say that ive seen posts where ppl say that the remote didnt have the juice to turn on their aftermkt amp...keep the questions coming
