Question Help with PAC SWI-ALP Steering Wheel Control

My specs:

2000 Acura TL + Nav
JVC AVX2 Head Unit
Everything else is stock

I just go the PAC SWI-ALP steering wheel remote device so I can use my steering wheel hookups on the JVC. I've set it up just like the manual says to. It has a 5100 ohm resistor between the white wire and ground. White wire connected to pin 3. Ground connected to ground. Power connected to ACC power.

I turned it on and was able to set it to Device '3' for the Acura and Radio Select '2' for the JVC. From there, I've tried to program it and it doesn't respond at all when I press any of the steering wheel buttons. Nothing. Zilch. I got out my handy ohm-meter and checked that the 5100 ohm resistor is working: check. I then checked the resistance between pin 3 and ground:

no buttons pressed: 2120 ohms
volume up: 315 ohms
volume down: 100 ohms
audio/ch: 670 ohms

These numbers were about the same with the car on and completely off.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just a faulty unit? Anybody else have these problems?

I couldn't get mine to work either until I took that resistor off. I saw someone here say that you didn't need the resistor so I gave it a try. For whatever reason when it was set to that mode the light wouldn't stay on like the instructions say. It works without the resitor.

My only complaint is that the controls aren't very responsive. I have to hold the steering wheel buttons down much longer than before. I'm used to it now but it still kinda sucks.

I would try reprogramming it but that is a hassle.

If anyone else has this interface installed do you have the response issues like me?

Does yours have an ugly delay in it like mine? I have to hold the button down for at least twice as long as I did with the stock head unit. It sucks enough that I almost don't even use the steering wheel controls any more.
