Help me please!
So i got my 7" screen and dvd player installed yesterday, where the stock HU was. The installer told me that he was not able to hook up the stock sub. He said something about the amplifier being inside the orginal HU that he took out and the sub required a special adapter. IS this true??? OR can it be done?
Not 100% sure if it can be reused with your setup, but according to all the threads on here, the amp for the sub is behind the back seat. You must take out the back seat to get at it. Sounds like he was making an assumption about the sub amp and the HU. Perhaps there is another reason I'm not aware of why you can't use the stock sub, but it seems to me you can.
As for hooking it back up, I'd think you could splice some wires from the new HU and feed them to the stock amp. There are threads in this forum on which colored wires are the amp turnon, low level inputs, etc. for the stock sub.
I've not attempted to tap into my stock stereo wires yet, so you might want to get advice from someone with hands-on experience. My hands will get dirty soon enough...
Good luck.

well let me take a stab at this... since you can not feed one amp in to another you will not be able to use the speaker outputs on the stock headunit... you will have to use the sub rca output... and then it would be as easy as splicing this output into the stock wiring for the sub amp... should not be that difficult and the installer should know how to do this...
Yes sir. Search this forum for sub amp and you will find instructions on how to get to it - gotta pull the rear seat. Your TL Blose stereo was probably the first one he ever saw and he had no idea how the sub was powered.
Anything CAN be done...it just takes a little finess. If you find the scematics for the tl you can see what the line level in to the stock amp is, you could
1. Run an interconnect between your new HU and the line level in wires for the stock AMP
2. Find the schematics for the factory HU and figure out what wires corrispond to the line level out for the stock amp, clip them, terminate them with an RCA connector, and plug that into your aftermarket HU.
I'll try to post more detailed instructions when I have the chance...but I CAN be done (although I would just replace the crappy sub anyway!)
