help/advice with new amp/sub combo!
hey i recently purchased a 2003 TL-s. the sound system is quite the upgrade from my old 94 camry, but im a music fan so i was looking to put in a sub. the problem is that i know absolutely nothing about subs/amps.
im looking for: quality > strength/volume.
budget of around 400.
any ideas?
will i also need new tweeters to go with the sub?

For about 450 you can get a set up of 2 fosgate P2 with a i belive a 1200 watt 2 channel performance teknique amp. My friend got that set up and its nice. They hit nice and hard and have clean bass. Depends on if you have a aftermarket head unit, want crazy bass or clean bass etc. Thas just my .02 cents.

you can easily fullfill this
I've got 1 12 inch image dynamics idq v2 D4 sub pushed by an eclipse xa1000 450watt sub amp in a 1cft box and it sounds marvelous. I don't even have the amp gain turned up halfway and the sub slams as hard as I want it to. Got both for around 120 bucks shipped via forum/ebay shopping.
if you want affordable sound quality and musicality in a sub, you'd be hard pressed to beat the image dynamics idq's...amazing subs that are used in competition vehicles. I can pretty much garauntee you won't be disappointed....

thank you for all the responses.
i have decided to go with the alpine type R sub. generally gets good reviews and is fairly cheap. i also purchased a custom box for it.
still not sure what amp to purchase though. looking for something that can deliver 750watts rms or so.
any recommendations?

yeah iuno, you could have gotten an image dynamics sub for the price of a type r, which would have pretty much blown it away sq wise. but hopefully you enjoy the type r
as for a 750 watt amp, I'd say look at the eclipse xa2000, very clean and true rated power and extremely affordable for what it does. if you dont mind paying double and getting an epic amp, go for the cerwin vega exl-1200d...it's basically a rebadged zapco reference amp that sells for a 3rd of the price because it has a cerwin vega tag on it. 1200 watts rms and you can find them on ebay for around 200-250 shipped. Best kept secret and value on the market IMO.

^^ great amp as well
and yes, if you're looking at around the 1000 watt point, you're going to have to pay to play.
you can get a no-namer for cheap, but most likely it's only gonna put out a third to a half of its 'rated' power
I'd say also check out ebay for any old precision power pc class sub amps

I have 3x 10" K7 subs rated at 1800rms total. I'm running a 2400watt MD amp to it. It hits a lot harder and clearer than a couple 12's and the whole setup costed around 500$.
I could've gotten 3x 12" K7 subs that runs 2600rms for 110$ but i didn't want to blow my brains out. Subs are cheap here in Sac.

If your looking for sound quality, you dont need 1000 Watts. Get yourself a single JL Audio 10W3v3 (~$150) with dual 4 ohm voice coils and a JL Audio A Series A1400 monoblock amp (~$250). Connect your voice coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load and the amp will push 500 Watts RMS. To save money, build your own sealed enclosure. It makes for a fun project.
My friend did the exact same thing in his older maxima and it sounds great.
