Which headunits would everyone recommend?

My friend is getting a new head unit in his car, and he was looking at a pioneer and sony explod one. Does anyone recommend these, or any other ones? thanks

Anything BUT sony's...they're the worst of all. Go check out your local Walmart...right next to the Jensens and random no name brands you see Sony...that should tell you something =)

I'd suggest Kenwood (VERY good line, one of my favorites), Pioneer, Alpine...those are my fav. three

Wow. Such harsh words for Sony. Now I'm real curious as to why Sony is bad? Have you had bad experiences with them? How about the top of the line Sony Head Units? Please let me know!

Thanks in advance.

You'd think so but no...no bad times with Sony. Good customer service and whatnot. Just tired of car audio shops selling Xplod amps saying they'll compete with Rockford, or speakers saying they'll compete with JL, or heads saying they'll compete with Kenwood. They're good in home stereo (I have a Sony STR-DE975 at home) but they suck in car audio. All glitter, no power. Just something I have noticed ever since they came out. They just don't seem to give all the juice they're rated for to the speakers they're connected to. Plus I know that the chips they use in their heads tend to "heighten" the sound a bit...something that I find sounds unnatural. I think there was an article at mermag.com...Mobile Electronics...go look around

I happen to like Kenwood products. Never had a problem with them.
