head unit assistance

I put, or tried to put, my new head unit in today in my cl. Ive never done it before but ive seen other people do it so i thought id give it a try. I just matched up the colors. Seemed right to me since thats what other people have done that ive talked to /watched. When I turned my car on, the head unit didnt turn on. Ideas?

Oh, I have ideas all right.

One is passing a federal law saying that you can't install without a voltmeter.

Do you have a voltmeter?

It's not always as simple as matching the wire colors, sometimes they don't match up. I'd double check the wiring diagrams for the radio harness and metra harness. The most common mistake I've seen is the Yellow and Red wires not matching especially on Pioneers..

Are there any other accesories not working on your car? Ex. cigarette ligter, wipers, etc?

Nope, I thought thats what would happen. If I did wire it wrong, other lights wouldnt be working. But they all work. I have a pioneer 680, or 6800, which ever is the newer one. Im going to take a pic of the harnesses and put it up here. You guys can take a look.

I believe you have the red and yellow wires incorrectly/reversed.. But you need to look at the Metra harness and the radio harness and make Sure you have them matched up correctly, not just color to color.

I can't just look at a picture and tell you.. I need the wiring diagrams.

Metra Harness
Red= 12 V power
Yellow =
etc.

Radio harness
Red =
Yellow =
etc.

Is this headunit brand new?

Did you try the mute button or possibly the att button?

If you have the metra harness and all the speaker wires are hooked up color to color then I'm not sure..

Only way for me to help you troubleshoot is if you tell me what wires are what on the "metra harness" and the "aftermarket radio harness" and then tell me what wires you have hooked to what..

As I said before you Can't just hook up color to color. You have to atleast compare the two to be Sure the colors match up.

If you want you can try and switch the red and yellow wires to try and troubleshoot.

Also, it helps if you tell us what you have attempted or done to troubleshoot. (Process of elimination)

Alright well Ive just been switching speaker wires around and just testing it. That hasnt worked. I really dont know what to do. I have the stock BOse amp, and some people are saying I need to use the remote wire to trigger the stock amp which tells the amp when to turn on. Is this true? No idea how to trigger the amp, though. On the harness from the head unit (brand new), it doesnt say which is which, it only says which is which on the metra harness.

it should be a blue, switch +12V Remote wire off the back of your new HU... this will trigger the amp to turn on... aftermarket or stock amp...

Ok, so today, I was like what the hell ill go to Best Buy. So I go there and tell the kid my problem. Hes like yeah same thing happened with my celica. He told me I had to bypass the amp, only way to get it to play sound. I was like F that. So I then went to Circuit City. Talked to a guy and he seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He told me I need an amp integration harness. But what do you know, they dont make it for our cars. So I left there thinking I would never get it solved. My last resort was Auto Image. Told them my situation, and the guy takes me keys and goes to my car. Hes in my car for about 3 mintues. He comes in a hands me the keys, and says it works. I was like what? I couldnt believe it, after all these people telling me I need to do different things. I wanted to proove you haters wrong about BestBuy/Circuit City, but they failed again. Anyways, thanks for your help though guys.

Your first install and you didn't even have the wiring diagrams to install it properly..

Problem for me was that there was no labels on the wires from the metra harness. Kinda hard to tell which wires matched up.
