Has anyone replaced their speaker cloth?

I am preparing to do some thing to my car (99 TL) and after reading this post: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...33&postcount=4 it seems like the speaker cloth that comes with is not the best there is.

Has anyone replaced the cloth for acoustic reasons and have had good results?

I've done some before on a old car I had.I just pick what material I wanted from a fabric store used 3m spray adhesive and 1/4" staples on the back with a adjustable depth shooting electric staple gun.Just practice on a simular piece to get depth right so you dont shoot threw the material on the other side.It held up for atleast 3 years that I still owned the car.

He isn't talking about the grill cloth in that thread. He is talking about the plastic piece the grill cloth is attached to. The perforation area isn't that large compared to the speaker behind it.

If your saying he wants more holes to acomendate for the speaker larger suface area thats easy.Pull the material back, drill some more holes and rewrap. Please op refrase what your needs are and I can help. I never even looked at your link. But I do have a pair off right now that I will post a pic so I can help in anyway.I had dirty ones on my car so I changed them out now thinking about doing something with the old ones.

Sorry if my wording was a little unclear. My comments were to the original poster about what was said in his link.

As you have seen, removing that grill part from the door isn't something simple as it is plastic welded onto the door panel. So do this at your own risk. I just did this in my vehicle so I could cut a hole and mount my tweeter on the solid part of the grill.

I removed my speaker cloths and painted the stock speaker grills, it's just glued on there, shouldn't be too hard to remove and replace

After re-reading my original link I think I misread it originally. I had understood it to be that the cloth was no good but now I understand that he meant the plastic with holes behind the cloth is the problem and that they should be bigger holes.

I guess my question should have been has anyone cut out some of the plastic to get better sound.

You can definitly cut out some of the plastic how ever you wish.It would be a asset if you were cut from over mids or tweets if your speakers have them,or enlarged the perimeter of the hole to the size of the speaker, but when rewraped it would not look the same as factory.
