Has anyone gotten 5.1 DVD playability?

Now with my 04 TL finally in my possesion, one of my first projects is the Nav screen to DVD screen conversion. I've done plenty of research and I have a good idea of all the components I'm going to use, but I would like to have the DVD play full 5.1 to utilize the TL's capabilities. Has anyone accomplished this? All the setups I've seen so far look like it just converts the sound to a stereo signal. Thanks.

Jim

Some companies make 5.1 surround changers for cars, Claion comes to mind for some reason. The only problem is you would have to setup an different amp and all for the DVD system.

Pretty much Hijack the existing system's speakers. Then you turn off the stock stereo and play the dvd through the second head unit. If you have both on you'd have multiple signals going to the speakers, not good.

Interesting concept but it sounds too bulky and redundant to me. I'll take a hardwired FM modulator until a better option comes along in the next few years, which I'm sure there will be.

BTW what DVD player are you looking at?

Ok I have an idea but it is kinda pricy and complicated. Apline makes a DVD changer and a digital signal processor. Both of which have optical I/O ports. The DSP also has 5.1 RCA outputs. I can use the optic cable between the DVD changer and the DSP then intercept the signal between the DSP and the amps with 3 stereo RCA switchs made by Peripheral (Stinger) and use the line output convertors made by soundgate to send the stock head units signal to 1 side of the switches and the other side will be the DVD player audio. The video with then go through the AVElectronic A/V switch. Tell me what ya think
