Graphical EQ

I am looking for somekind of EQ where I have an audio input and then an audio ouput and analyzes the audio stream and kinda has a graphical interpretation of it....kinda like the winamp visualization plugins so when I am listening to cd's the screens in the car will play. Hard to explain, but hopefully someone understands

If I'm reading your post correctly, it sounds like you're looking for a spectrum analyzer.

There are actually a few manufacturers who still make EQs with this feature.

Here's a couple of quickies for you to check on and then let us know if this is what you meant:

Kenwood KGC-9044
Pioneer DEQ-7600

I like this feature as well. It tends to make tuning a bit more fun as well as the jumping lights. I didn't opt for it in my current setup though.

If I've totally misinterpreted what you're looking for, let me down gently!

kind of, thats what people always point me in the direction of, but what I need is the display to be shown on video screens instead of the unit itself.....picture this:

the rca's from the dvd unit go to this eq unit then out of the eq unit are audio rca's that go to my headunit as well as a video rca that goes to my avc-rgb1 which will project the graphical video on the lcd's in my car.

If you ever used Windows Media player...its kind of like that when you play an mp3 with it (or any other audio source).

Sorry, I didn't realize that you wanted the ouput of the spectrum analyzer to be viewable on your video screen. I thought you were just looking for the spectrum analyzer itself. All things considered, I should have realized that you could have figured it out in the 5 minutes it took me to do so for you.

To be honest with you, I don't know if car audio has reached this stage yet. I'm kind of doubting that it has. If you wish to go this route, I think you'll need to build an in-car computer to do it.

With the relatively low cost of computer components today, you should be able to build one for a "reasonable" cost. I have seen MANY sites concerning how to do so. Sadly, I haven't saved them since I'm not too interested in it at this time.

Processors, RAM, etc. are getting cheaper by the day. I think you may be venturing into pretty intersting territory. I definitely think it's possible but I think you'll need to build an in-car computer system to do so. I think some of your biggest obstacles will be the reliability of the hard drive to take the constant bumping of everyday driving, and the mounting space that will be required to install the computer itself. Sadly, I don't see any way around these requirements. Then again, I'm not a pro. Maybe Streeteffects has already overcome this.

I realize that this may not have been too helpful, but I do see what you're looking for now and have a pretty good idea as to how to build it. The problem I see is the cost......

Sorry!?

yeh, what u are looking for is pretty much software related, such as winamp..after all, alot of higher end hu's have that feature built in...its probably impossible to find an stand alone unit that will display that on a separate screen.

bozz is right, the only way i know of anyone doing that now is by building a computer in the car....

Well I have the KGC9044 and it looks pretty.. :-)

I think your best bet is hook up your laptop and have some kind of interface that can control/view. I have seen some Audio Mags that some guy took a home crossover and installed it on his car and tunes it using his laptop.
