I was jsut wondering, if i am not send enough power to a speaker how can I blow it? I mean crutchfield says always buy a amp in the RMS range. I have that 12 solo and I am sending 500 watts rms to it and its listed as 600rms. In my lil sisters RSX I put one 10 Fosgate HE2 and its listed as 100-400 RMS and I am sending 200 to it, and its sounds fine to me. Will I be doing any damage to the speaker.

What do yall think of my dash piece. It took 3 days for ultimate to make it. The wood piece was bought from www.selectproducts.com .

I think it depends how far you have the gain turned up. If the amp is a little more powerful than the speaker can handle, just don't turn the gain up so much and it should be okay.

I dont know the part number, but is an Audiobahn and it cost him 5 or 600 bucks, so it should do.

And they tell you not to underpower subwoofers because what people usually do when they are underpowered is jack up the gains. When the gains are high, you get distortion which kills speakers.

ohhh sweet dnd2984! you have the head unit I desire! oh well.. maybe a little later on. congrats on setting your system up.

I don't know if you knew, but its coincidental that our subs being in the corner of the car also results in a nicer bass hit at our front seats. I was reading the latest car and audio electronics and the alpine guy on the last page (steve brown) was spewing about how useful it is to put a sub at the farthest corner of the car to let the waves roll and build up through the entire car. he had a friend with two 15" under the rear parcel shelf and it hit nowhere near as hard as one of them in the corner like our setups.

the only issue I see with this is with the bass lag that I dealt with before... but wait! your alpine has time delay!! muahahaha!

another reason why I want that unit. currently I use phase reversal to fix the issue and it's 'mostly fixed'

Yes, I did notice the bass hits harder when in the corner but, u hear less bass on the outside. I might soon get a vented enclouse due to I only listen to rap music and sometimes techno when I am in the mood.

Sweet!

I'm going to ask a few questions, so if I missed something along the way, be gentle with me.

1. Is that the factory deck mount you put the HU in?
2. If so, will an EQ fit in place of the black "thing" mounted beneath the HU? (Sorry, I can't tell what it is)
3. Could you post the dimensions and materials on your L7 box? I'm assuming it's sealed based on some of your earlier posts. Based on the suggestions at Kicker's website, a ported enclosure will need to be a good bit larger. I prefer the size you have since it takes up little trunk space. I listen to metal and punk so I don't want boomy bass, but I've gotten used to my two 12" IDQs with 300W each hitting them (different car).

Thanks for posting the pictures. You did a great job!!

1. Yes I think its the factory brackets I ll ask the audio place tommorow but i am sure its the factroy brackets
2. that black thing is the lil compartmant thing that use to be on top of the factory cd player. In 99-01 its a cd holder and 02 and up its a lil stroage compartment. YEa I EQ will fit I was gonna get a EQ but since my deck come wit a EQ the audio place said it wont help that much unless i was really going to a competion or something.
3. I am sending 500 watts to it and its boomy when I have my bass boost up and it also sounds great when i play techno. THe internal volume of the box is somewhere around 1 cu ft. I ll be happy to measure the box and post the dimesion later on tonight.
THe sub is a dual 2 ohm L5. I was gonna get a L7 but no point casue i didnt have a amp to push it. My amp sends 548 watts rms according to my certificate that came with it.

dnd2984: I went to the Select Products web site you listed. Can you tell me which burl pattern you purchased that matched the burl in the TL? It is difficult to determine from the small pictures they have posted.

Thanks

yeh, thats 1cf internal before speaker displacement.

bozzchem. if ur worried about amplifier power but still want to get the L7, go for the older model. tracy told me it handles less power, which also means it needs less power. as for me, im shooting for the zx1200.1 so that when i decide to upgrade to the L7s, i'll have all the power i could possibly need

whats up everyone...im new to the forums....03 TL anthracite w/ 3 varad hlx6 lightbars synched, hardwired valentine one, kicker kx600.1 and mtx thunder 6 12"

OK Beason.....so u removed the entire tray assembly (above stock HU) and re-arranged it? ....im workin on a car PC but i need an interface....preferably touch screen LCD...with both stock HU and the tray removed is it just one big hole?...and what's the depth up at the top with the tray stuff gutted? I'm tentatively looking for an LCD that will basically take up the MOST amount of space leaving little dead room...(im gonna post a thread about that too)...
