Yeah..tubes are nice for a little bass...but when you want to dome from down the block..you better just sell the tube and buy a box with good speakers.

I have an MTX 8000 and it's sweet. But the sub(s) in that tube are probably low quality.

Good post. Lots of info and very informative. What model did you have? What was it hooked up to? How old was it?

Stereos were big in the nineties, now it is all about the dvd. A bass tube will add weight to the car and slow it down. Chuck the base tube and buy some good regular speakers eh?

damn, I'm confused . So you dont need nice stereo system to listen to dvd? I wonder what that 5.1 does. Isn't there a dedicated channel for the bass? I need to get rid of my system so my car can go faster while watching DVD and listen to it from the "regular" speakers. I spent all that time and money for nothing. Suck to be me

StonedCL,
you can get a half decent amp to power the bass tube. I'd only get the amp once I know for sure the tube works. I think something with 100 watt rms would be enough for the tube. If you care about sound quality and quantity(volumn), get rid of the stock amp and speakers, put in some decent stuff and you rock

It's personal reference.
I haven't heard any good stock system and I don't expect much from those paper-cone speakers, no matter what badge they carry.
But hey, I'm not even happy with what in my sig now. I hope you get my point

First off, I didn't say keep the stock stereo, I just said hey, you can get a really good sounding stereo without adding weight and a box to your car. They make subs that fit in the door you know. Oh, my bad , I thought you were car enthusiasts over here. Some of you guys are acting like little girls "does this look good with that, is this too much, does this make my but look too big", One word, Lame. I am going back to hona-tech.com Those are some real car guys over there, any real car guys, I suggest you come check it out some time eh?

Hahahahaha! Please don't leave, your humor keeps me going. You can keep your "good" stereo with "subs" in the doors. If that's your personal preference than fine, just don't try to pass yourself off as an audio enthusiast. Have fun at honda-tech and I hope you real car guys know more about cars than you do about stereos.

Okay well hmmm.....was I talking about stereos? No, I liked stereos when I was 17, who cares about them now. I know you do, whatever. I wouldn't waste my money on any speakers when my car would be faster. You need to be in a "stereo" forum. My humor, whatever, I came over here thinking I might meet some cool people who had information on a car like the cl, not stereo questions. And another thing, Cars are good for a lot of reasons, likewise with the bad. You guys over here worship the cl-s like it is the best thing ever to plant four tires on the road. It is a cool car, but not that cool, this place needs some variety and other opinions. Have fun talking about stereos and grilles and whatnot. Oh oh, did anyone mention the gay wiper squirter lights or the lighted valve stem caps yet? Ooops, I should be careful, don't want to upset anyone cause 90% of you probably have them.

Don't get offended. You cannot be the best of both worlds (speed vs. sound quality). My comment was just about sound quality.

Ok this is my last flame because it's worthless talking to this douche...

From reading the rest your posts in Car Talk, jrok996 you don't know shit about either world. In case you wandered into this site without checking the URL, it's acura-cl.com. Hence we talk about Acura CL's and there are different sections for different topics. So I guess you want us to just talk about the CL for your knowledge. Damn, I don't know why I didn't think of that, what an interesting forum that would be. Go read the f'ing CL section of the Acura.com website. Here we ask questions, answer questions, and talk about topics related to OUR cars. You could learn a lot (and need to) by looking at the threads. What was is it you want to know that you couldn't find? The car has an engine, transmission and four wheels (compared to your bicycle which has pedals, gears and two wheels). There, now leave.

He thinks 18s will slow your car down...

Interesting... You've actually transcended into a realm beyond stereos! Into DVD!!! You're right, I don't think anyone here is sophisticated enough to hold a conversation with you.

Holy shit, is that for real? Did you really just type that? Crybabies are funny, I wish you'd stick around.

Congratulations, you're the funniest troll ever. You narrowly beat out this one boy here who pretended he had an M3 and started flame wars about it.

MTX is actually pretty good

All of you guys that say MTX sucks, I beg to differ. I had the 1999 version of the Blue Thunder legends. 2 12". They could handle 500peak, 250rms. I had 2 blue thunder amp rated at 37.5 watts/channel at 4 ohms going to each one. I made my own box and put it in my Explorer. Guess what, went to a bass competition and won best for 2 subs @ 142.7db. Guys with 4 Fosgate 15's couldn't even hang. I doubt the quality of subs has gone down since then. Just my experience with them.

I didn't say MTX sucks and I doubt that I would ever say that but I really dont think MTX put the Blue Thunder inside their bass tube. For those of you who said MTX sucks, search around, you'll find a lot of good thing about MTX's product.

Peace.

Yeah sorry about that. I would suggest calling or emailing someone at MTX. They can give the stats on the tube you have. With that it'll be easy to determine what amp to use.

http://www.mtxaudio.com/

Let me know the specifics of the subs in the tube, and a price range for the amp and I'll give you my suggestions. Before you buy any amp you really need to know what your sub can handle.
