i found this at another site, is this really true? for anyone that has the clifford 3.5 matrix ?
Before I remote start the vehicle, I have to disarm the alarm because if I don't the stock alarm will go off. Once the car is remotely started, I can/have to rearm the alarm. The security installer looked up my car on Viper's site and he said there wasn't a way to bypass the stock alarm and that this is how it would have to work. This is okay if true but I could also believe the installer missed something and didn't want to go back in my car to fix it. Can anyone else with a Viper remote start respond to how their remote start operates? Thanks.

Those prices are definitely reasonable
As for having to disarm the alarm....that's a bunch of crap, the installer was just too lazy to go into the driver door and tap the factory disarm wire....either that, or he has NO IDEA what he's doing.
There's a single wire that comes off the aftermarket alarm, called a factory disarm wire. On the TL, you run this wire into the driver door, and tap onto a black wire with a red trace...it changes to blue, and that's usually where you grab it. Simple enough. And like I said above, either he was too lazy to run the wire into the door, didn't know how to run the wire in the door, or was just imcompetent.

thanks, i really thought it was weird that clifford would make the remote start that way. if it was true its a very inconvient and poor way to design a remote starter.
this may seem like common sense but wanted to make sure. when you remote start the car, then do you press the unclock button to open the doors? how exaclty do get in the car after you started it?

Mine is similar to that, I have to unlock my doors first then start my car. If i don't then my factory alarm will go off. It senses that the car was started without the factory alarm being turned off. After a few seconds the alarm rearms and locks. I talked to my installer and he said he can fix that no problem, He said he must have missed it when he installed it. It really doesn't bother me that much.

When the systems are installed correctly, everything should function normally. All you do is remote start, and then get in and out of the car like you always did. You SHOULD NOT have to unlock the doors first and then remote start. If you do, the unit's disarm wire was not hooked up.

I got my clifford rsx 3.5 for 300 installed with autostart and trunk opener. As for the remote start thing, yes it's true if the installer doesn't disable the factory alarm with the blue wire like street effects said, basically if you wanted to disarm your factory alarm completely, just ground that wire. Another problem you may run into is your factory alarm going off if you have the trunk opening option with your alarm, in that case, the clifford would have to disarm the factory alarm for that too. IMO, disable it all together, but it's up to you.
