Gonna get a radar detector
Which one? Looking the V1, Escort 9500ix, Escort Redline, and Bel Sti Magnum.
Probably 70% city, 30% highway. Not sure but I think city runs C/O. Oklahoma Highway Patrol has Ka I/O Stalker Duals, some I/O K band Bee II radars, and of course Lidar.
Also driving back and forth from Oklahoma to Dallas occasionally.
Since most of my driving is city I'm looking for the ability to lockout false positives, therefore I think the V1 is out.
I don't speed too much in town (small town) and there won't be many false positives on the highway. So now the final question is, Escort Live or not? I'm thinking yes, unless someone talks me out of it. Or, just buy the Redline and wait for the hardwire Escort Live solution?

*edit.
I dont think the "LONGEST RANGE" is necessary.
With the 9500ix, as it starts to warn and I think the cop would be sitting fairly close.....but no.....the cop is sitting pretty far down the road. half a mile or more down the road when it first starts to warn.

Sorry in advance, I have a lot to say. I've had a 9500ix since August 2009, and I absolutely love it. Escort customer service has been nothing but amazing for me.
I just got the chance to do a "detector tune-up" for $99.95, and I'm glad I did it. My unit previously had some wear and tear and then got launched through the cabin in an accident last September, so I felt it was overdue to be serviced to make sure everything was working right on the inside. They completely replaced the outer casings, tested/tuned the detection sensitivities, updated the software (can be done yourself), and sent it back to me with an additional smartcord, an additional standard mount w/ extra suction cups, a new 'SuperCup' mount, AND a SmartCord Live cable for my Android phone with a 1 year subscription. I essentially just traded my 3 year old system for a brand new one and 3 cars' worth of accessories for 100 bucks.
I got to tinker with the Live service for the first time yesterday, and i was VERY impressed with what they have accomplished with their Android software only being on version 1.0.4. The app gives you FULL control of your detector with your phone including all settings (brightness, sensitivity, display etc.). I'm pretty sure all future software updates are handled through the bluetooth connection in addition to database updates, so your false positives will always be updated. No need to connect to a computer. The inclusion of the USB port for charging my phone on the SmartCord Live is also a great convenience feature in my book. I'm very excited for the future potential of the service with continued updates and expansion on their end in addition to an increase in the number of users. I'd love to see them make the smartphone app compatible with Pioneer AppRadio. The main cons in my eyes are currently that it is subscription based (understandable), that the amount of users on the road in my area may not be large enough yet (only had it 24 hours so who knows), and that they have been unable to release a cable compatible with both Android and iPhone (not a big deal for me since I don't see myself switching to an iPhone anytime soon/ever, but I like purchasing things that are 'future-proof').
I'd previously been looking into hardwiring a setup for my sportbike with the intention of placing a bright Alert indicator light near the gauge cluster so that it's in my sight regardless of where the detector gets mounted on the bike. I came across this resource pertaining to the standard smartcord:
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec156.shtml
Most importantly, look at this:
I don't know what your options are in an 07 TL, but it shouldn't be too hard to recreate that circuit for dirt cheap and wire an external mute button, power light and alert light wherever you want.
Last night I started brainstorming for ways to piggyback custom indicators/mute buttons in line with a Live cord while still maintaining Live functionality; we'll see what I come up with.

i hardwired my 9500ix this weekend. the easiest thing EVER.
i bought a hardwire kit from amazon.
chose a place to mount the 9500ix near my rear view.
then ran the wiring down the side to the in cabin fuse box.
then used an *add a fuse* on fuse #32.
thats it.

i heard the v1 is loosing their patent on the arrows, not sure how true that is.. but i would expect the newer escorts to have something similar if it is true, i use escort's passport 8500 x50 blue, works great and paid for itself many times over lol i live in the city so i only use it for highway
