Talking Front Tweeters

Has anyone been able to ad tweeters to the stock system on their "01-02" TL? I want to mount them on triangle section of the front windows, inside of where the side view mirrors are. Can tweeters be added, or will it mess up the standard Bose system in the vehicle?

when i got my tweeters installed, they put them IN the doors, right next to the speaker angled up. Sounds great!!!

I just didnt want my tweeters sticking out on the triangle spot.

Hey, I would have rather had them put where yours are, but the TL-S has the extended area for the memory seat buttons, so there was no room left for a tweeter! That's why they are up there.

Actually, they sound real nice beaming the high right at me!

Oblio98 - Tweeter question!

I am talking about the ones you have installed in the triangle area. They look great. Were they added to the factory speakers, or did you change out everything?

ok guys, the first pic is very easy to do. but your tweeter needs to have surface mount capability. as for the second pic, it looks nice but isnt an option for ppl like me w/2002 tls cause of the seat memory buttons.

btw, sonically, those tweeter positions setup a horrible soundstage and tonal balance is completely off unless you do alot of massaging w/ third octave eqs...and even then its not a guarantee that you'll fix the problems incurred w/that setup. im currently trying to figure out what i'll do w/the tweeters in my system. apparenlty the 97-99 cl speaker location much better than this one...

You're dead on. The best place to put them? In kickpanels in the floor directed up at exactly ear level to the listener. That's where I'm putting mine, along with my midranges.

well, ive heard extrememly high end expert installs in IASCA Finals competitions that used that location on the door/a pillar to mount focal tweets and get away with it...but for the most part. its not worth tackling. For ease of installation, surface mount is the way to go, just like in the first pic, but it's not what i want to do.

i know kick panel mounting is all the rage and all true audiophiles swear by it, but its not a given. my 97 cl ( http://members.cardomain.com/systek ) was getting tuned by a usac judge the day before the show cause a friend hooked me up. right next to me being tuned at the same time was a car that has been winning first place for 2 years now. two judges loved my soundstage over the other guys and if u look at my former install, the comps were in the factory location in that car, extremely low and forward in the doors, tweets not even facing up at the listeners...

Hmm...well most competition cars you won't see tweeters in the a-pillars, unless they have mids and tweeters in them. The reason is because if your components are more than half a foot apart you're going to have to do some major phase shifting to correct the extremely weird sound field you'll get from it. Yeah kickpanel mounting is all the rage...has been for 15 years It's also the preference of most of the IASCA and USAC judges I've talked to...just because it'll give proper imaging. I saw your pictures...to be honest most judges wouldn't have liked the sound field that I imagine that would have produced. I mean different judges like different things obviously...but I've found for the most part a dash install or a lower install is the way to go. You can definitely get away with the a pillars if you have two component sets on each door...

i have always thought the same, until i saw and spoke w/ wilson adcock from humble, tx...he's done some high profile cars like "fear the reaper" dode intrepid?? which made csr cover a few yrs back using that mounting location.

anyway...i was stating that it's not my favorite place to install tweets and have never done so in my own installs.

as for judges, they should be blindfolded, cause it doesnt mattter where your comps are installed, its the sound that matters and nothing else...!!!

Actually it's funny you mention him...I plan on contacting him soon...Bill Burton, my friend and editor of CSR mentioned him when we were talking online a while back. I'm familiar with the car...actually seen them at a few shows. They can't really be blindfolded ya know Install quality IS a factor...

actually, ive emailed will burton in the past...and have hung out w/mike, dave and chuck(when he was there)so i kinda know the gang too...

ive visited wilson's shop in humble, and have had lenghty discussions with him, he really knows his stuff...

as for blindfolding....dont forget, sound quality judges just listen...install judges just ck out the install...two separate things happening at different times...in other words, it can be the same judge doing both things in one show(although highly unlikely) but never at the same time.

have u competed before??? and are ya at work at this time???

just wonderin.

Have you really? Cool Yeah I know exactly who you're talking about...man I'd kill for those guys' jobs . That's really good to hear that he knows what he's doing...in the event that I break down and want advice on my stuff then I'll go to him...of course getting a shops help keeps me from competing in my class. And yeah I know what you mean about the judges...but even so there's nothing special about the judges...I went to a judges seminar...not really all that spectacular. So it's a good idea to impress them as much as possible with the install...it always has seemed to make the sound sound "better" hey...they're human.

I have competed before yes...on a local level. I've been to quite a few shows, helped, and done, myself a lot of installs, but never gone to nationals...I hope to do that the coming year and well...win Yes, I am at work right now...if you mean at work as installing. If you wanna know what with check out my post...

We installed a Premier PRS X340 amp, Premier PRS X320 amp, Premier TSM7PRS mids in the front doors, TS605 mids in the rear doors (I think that's the model, I don't remember). 1" tweets and crossovers in the front doors, Alumapro BP-8 sub (enclosure/woofer combo), Phoenix Gold wiring

Ron spent 11 hours on the first day, and 8 hours on the second day to complete the install.

These were not short spurts with breaks and other diversions, this was solid time working exclusively on my car (with a phone call here and there). Every wire was labeled, tied down, hidden, and routed in a professional manner. This was no "Circus City" hack job. He would not even let me leave until I was totally satisfied with the way it sounded. He even offered to change out equipment if I was not satisfied.

All I can say is "Visit a StreetEffectz location near you!"

Commendations street...I guess you can just always do it cheaper yourself. Yeah 19 hours sounds like a tough time Street...you should help me out on this one...I'm projecting the project I forced you to see is gonna take 4 straight days...what with fabricating everything and all. I'm just one of those tight asses that can't drop 2g on an install and all that
