Front Door Speaker Depth
Front Door Speaker Depth
For those of you who have removed the front OEM door speakers, what is the depth of the OEM speaker?
It is right at 2" . . . . ?
I understand the the speaker size is 6.5"
Also, if anyone knows the speaker size and depth for the rear doors as well . . . . ?
Thanks for the information.

Two inches sounds about right. I made some spacers out of MDF (God help me if moisture gets in there) that are about 1/2 inch thick and my Polks seem to have no problems at all fitting. You are likely to find that the problem with the factory speaker cutouts is that it is more pentagon shaped than round and any aftermarket speakers' baskets will not fit without either cutting away metal or making spacers like I did. Fun, but time consuming.
The door speakers are exposed to the elements all the time. When it rains, the rear of the speakers are all wet. I was installing my door speakers after it rained, and there were still some moisture in the back of the speakers after I took it into the garage.
I just installed the Alpine Type-R 2-way speakers to the rear doors today. Man, the sound is sweet!
It's like a live concert in my car now.
To answer the previous question, the rear door speaker depth is 3.1" The rear glass does not dip into the speaker opening, so there are plenty of depth. The opening is still pretty small, so I had to cut it in the same manner as the front door. However, I did not have to create any spacers in there, just used a layer of Xtreme Dynamat. I also use a big strip of dynamat to mount the crossover inside and to the side of the speaker basket. I did not cut the grill this time, since there are plenty of space (and it's a LOT of work to cut a perfectly circular opening!!)
