Free air subwoofers
alright guys.. i need some help.. haha.
lot of the guys or most of the guys over on the genesis coupe forums are performance/track junkies.. -_-;;
+ the car is pretty new so not a lot of people.. buy anyways..
i'm looking for a replacement to my 8" sub in the rear deck.
this "Premium" sound system by Infinity/JBL is... not so "Premium" haha.. lacks A LOT of bass compared to the stock one in my 2G TL.
Just need some sub you guys would recommend for free air.

Or you could deaden the hell out of rear deck and find an 8" subwoofer to run Infinite Baffle. Add a small amp, and you'll be money. Keeps weight down (heaviest part will probably be the deadener) and keeps your trunk space free.
What's the mounting depth of the space you have?

Eggy, normally we agree, but this time I have to disagree with you. The factory sub is set up to run infinite baffle, as are most factory subs. So to drop in an aftermarket sub, with a couple hundred watt amp, would not be that difficult. Would he want to deaden the rear deck? Absolutely, but it would not be that hard to get an infinite baffle effect out of a simple drop in woofer.
That being said, another option for you OP would be to replace the front speakers, like Eggy mentioned. I've done a couple of setups with just a decent set of front comps, and no sub, and they sound pretty good for the cost. You can do a decent hu (if they've got a dash kit for your car yet, if not a LOC), amp and comps for around $300-400, depending on the quality of components you want to use. You can spend even more if you really wanted to, but that's going to be your middle of the line stuff...

The cost of deadening the hell of the rear deck isn't worth it imo
if he ends up with a decent <600 watt sub stage, the mids and highs won't be able to keep up..and he'll have to sink even more money into it.
I noticed he has navi so i vote comps with a 2 ch amp that has a dsp

600w IB is not going to have the same output as 600w in a box... And the cost of deadening the deck really wouldn't be that much. A couple sheets of Damplifier Pro should take care of it... I know my doors are much more solid with 3 sheets, let alone the 6+ when I fully finish them.
what does the rear package tray look like...
if the package tray is large enough...i'd modify and i'd take a JL Audio M10IB5 or DLS OA 10 and drop it in...install a LOC, a level control, and amp...and call it good...large good sounding Infinite Baffle Subwoofer with very little loss of space...
mattastick...i'd like to see some of the stuff you've done...because you sound like a dumb hick from back east that needs to step away from all things car audio...
thanks and have a nice day..

Why do you say that? Just curious...
If you search Biggs, you can find my build log. I'm pretty sure it's up to date, except for results...

I indeed have found your build thread...and it serves as a perfect piece of evidence to my previous statement

PM me? And include pics of that 4th order of yours, if you would. I had a similar idea, but couldn't get the port the way I wanted it, so I never built it. I'm just curious how you actually pulled it off.
I would drop an 8 inch Infinity sub in there. I was thinking of doing that on my tl but the mounting depth was like six inches and that just wouldnt work. However it should be perfect for you. Might not be necessessarily true, but guy at the audio shop told me that Infinity makes the best 8 inch subs out there!?!
"Best sub" is completely dependent on what you're trying to achieve. For example, the loudest 8" sub is either a DD 1508 or a Sundown SA-8 prototype (although I think the proto is extremely close to the production model). Both of them have done over 150db in crx's, the DD in a rex built by Alan Dante and the Sundown in a rex that Sundown owner Jacob Fuller. The problem is, if you take that information to most audio shops, they will tell you that both DD and Sundown are swap meet trash, and they should be sold so you can buy JL/Infinity/Rockford/etc...
^ truth. while jbl might be decent (and very overpriced) most stuff from shops is way overpriced and crappy compared. ill put up almost any shop parts against any of the big names like IA, sundown, dd, aq, and on money to output ratio. i suggest getting an FI q in a very small box. that would be like less than a foot cubed. if not that, with a box that small, you prob could build it to hang down from the rear deck. so you would mount it ontop to the bottom of the rear deck. just some ideas
Josh, this is the same issue Mike was trying to alleviate, remember? There's no clear cut solution, just the lesser of the evils. All you have to do is go to the 3G TL side...and this same thread has already been played out there.
