Whats the budget?

Infinity Kappa Perfect series are great subs, and can go free air.

I am not a fan of freeair subs for younger listeners playing today's popular music - it's awfully easy to overdrive them and blow them up. I used them mostly in the trunk of four-door sedans for older listeners.

The subs in a box use the air in the box as part of the suspension, like the air bag in a car suspension. Without that, woofers have lower power handling due to excursion problems pretty often.

DLS makes a 10 and a 12 that are designed for freeair applications. Usually when you are replacing a factory sub it's an 8" Anyone know a free-air 8"? Not me, anymore... and I doubt you could fit a 10" in that location (what car, anyway?)

You might do OK with an 8" driver and a "subsonic" filter to take out the lowest bass notes. Infinite baffle or freeair subs often can't handle ultra-low bass very well.

ANd the other day someone mentioned Scott Buwalda using infinite-baffle woofers... remember he crossd his over at 37 Hz : )

The kickers have been installed in the TLs OEM sub location and people claim it sounds pretty good. Obviously it's not gonna hit anywhere near as hard as a sealed or ported box, but it's a good alternative for those that put a high priority on trunk space.

This is America, man. Do what you want to do.

But seems like a strange way to exercise freedom.

Free Air, sealed, ported.....all sound the same if your install is properly done, and you choose the right equipment.

If you want some nice free air 8s, look at the tc8s
