fitting aftermarket components

i have focal 165w, and want to put them in place of my door speakers, i'm pretty sure i can't just do a straight swap, as the depth of the focals is probably more. how can i make them fit (what types of tactics have you guys used), and will i have issues when rolling down my window??

also, anyone have these exact speakers in a second gen tl? if so, please let me know how you got them to fit.

I grinded the bottom grille of stock spacer, and the top locating tab, and I put an addtionnal 1/4-3/8" of spacer on top of fit, then seated the speakers, and use long screw to secure them in the door panel (drilled new holes), Don't forget to trim the inner door trim in front of the speaker.

I would think a simple spacer to mount the mids to would do it. You may have to trim the metal hole in the door, depending on how big the magnet is on the speaker.

Tin snips will work fine...you dont have to make it look pretty or anything.

my problem with the stock hole was not the magnet but the speaker terminal touching the metal, causing a short, so watch this

Torkguy makes an excellent point. Be sure to watch for that. And OU Sig is correct, tin snips work just fine.
