Finnished my alarm

Well it took longer than I thought. I guess I am not that young anymore, at my age it is not easy to be crawling around under the dash. I started it on Sunday, worked on it last night and buttoned it up tonight. Here is what I put in,

Viper 791XV
555H
507T
Battery Back Up
Clifford Carbon Fiber LCD Remote
Viper 1020GPS

All installed in stealth fashion with nothing in sight. Even if you were to go under the dash the parts would be hard to find. I mounted an blue LED in each mirror sail. They look real cool.

The system works great and the GPS will protect my car no matter what.

I just purchased that same alarm system but I purchased the 556u instead of the 555h. With the bypass that you used fo u still need a key for it? B/c I really don't wanna leave a key in my car, I'm not feeling that idea at all...

I've got an 03 TLS and the 555H is meant for it. If you have a 04/05 TL you will need the 556U. Don't why about leaving a key in the car. Who would find it buried under the dash.

The problem with this is that this disables the engine immobilzer so if a thief manages to find a way into the car, they could go back to the old fashioned method of removing the ignition lock from the steering column and starting the car with a screwdriver.

i used the 556u in my 99tl and it works fine. as for the backup battery you don't need it to make the alarm work, and honestly depending on who installs it, it is a waste of money. personally i just put the alarm and remotestart in my car and made sure i had comprehensive coverage on my car with a zero deductible. Let's put i this way, if I, personally were to break into your car, there is no add on feature you could install that would keep me from getting whatever i would want to get. I'm not dumb enough to believe that there aren't criminals that know as much as I do about security systems. That is why the insurance is so important.

The only reason why I purchased it was b/c I work for a retail store and got a good discount on the back up battery... it cost me like $13.00!!! But if it weren't for that I wouldn't have paid retail for it. But now that I think about it u do make an excellent point!!!

CG - The only time the bypass module is active is when you remote start the car. Otherwise the 556 is inactive and the factory immobilizer is still intact. That is one of the benefits to using the Directed module.

Scott - It would be quite a challenge to get passed my alarm. Every thing is well hidden and all wires are hidden. Of course you could go to the Ignition harness and find the wires but that would take some time with the sirens and air horn going off. I felt that the 520T battery back up would be a good addition to my system. If someone were to break in and disable the cars battery it would still allow my alarm and GPS systems to work.

Blue - Consider the cost of the battery back up verses the benefit.

the reason i said what i said is this: if you figure the average theif wants to be in and out in approximately a minute, and then that you can get to the ignition wires in about 15 seconds, less if you carry a drill. add on about 20 seconds to pop the hood and disable any and all sirens. that means within 45 seconds all sirens are disabled and after that the thief has as much blissfully quite time that they could want. basically, as is the case in my situation, it came out cheaper to just add a zero deductible comprehensive coverage than it was to get all the bells and whistles for an alarm (and i install and sell for a living).

Look at it like this, if someone wants something you have bad enough, there is nothing you can do to keep them from it (short of sitting in your car with a fully loaded gun 24 hours a day). Might as well put that money to good use and beef up your insurance so that should you be a victim of theft, things can be made right with no money out of pocket.

What's up I'm Batman...
I just had my 791xv done over the weekend, and I love it. Like u I got the back battery but I didnt do the 507t. My question is doesn't it come w/ a tilt sensor? What's the need for the additional sensor?

Blue - The 791 comes with a shock sensor that picks up impacts to the car. The tilt sensor detects a 1 degree of tilt. Great if someone is trying to jack your car to take your wheels.

almost every alarm, including the 791 come with the ability to do trunk pop, you just need to use a relay to get it to work.

From what I understand if you have the push button trunk pop, they can just use that if its a lever then u need another piece. I just had the 791xv installed and my installer connected the trunk pop thru the aux button and he didnt use any seperate pieces... well atleast he didn't charge me for any.

you're right in that if the car has an electronic trunk release then it doesn't need any additional parts other than the relay. In most cases most shops won't charge you for the relay b/c of the fact that they are kept in such abundance. At least that is the case at our shop.
