Finally the install is done...DLS/MB Quart/Alpine PICs

Guys after 6 months of busy work I finally found time to install my long awaited system. I used El Duderino's help during the install and boy was that so very helpful for those unforseen issues. So heres what we installed...

-DLS CA41 4-Channel Amplifier
-MB Quart RCE-216s
-Alpine Type-R 6x9s

1. Removed the passenger seat and removed all padding underneath the carpet where the amp was going to sit and rasied the seat with washers.

2. Tapped all the neccesary wires behind the headunit without having to remove the center console (I was afraid of breaking something when I removed the boot surrounding).

3. All wires were routed to the amp and to the driver seat for the crossovers.

4. Doors were opened and speakers were installed. The doors needed to be cut in order to fit the MB Quartz in there properly. We used El Dude's tips on the speaker bracket/spacer.

5. OEM Tweeters were removed and the MB's were placed in the exact location with a slight modification to the OEM grill.

6. Everything was tested, powered, and hidden in black automotive Tubing.

Total install time was around 14 hours. Here are the pics...

Ok guys as for the sound....

I would have to say this system is one of the best I have ever heard aside from my dads ls 430 which has the mark levinson's. The lows are perfect...very tight. Almost feels like I have a low powered sub in the back. The highs are just perfect. They are not high enough to make your eyes blink but high enough to make you feel you are really there. I was playing indian music lately just because the speakers emphasize every instrument and it sounds so damn good. I thought the tweeters were going to be over powering but I was wrong.

I have one issue that hasnt really bothered me lately but I thought I would ask. There is this faint static noise when the volume is all the way down to 0 when the engine is on. If I rev the engine the noise goes away. When I turn up the volume the noise is unoticeable. What you guys think?

What that sounds like to me is passive xover noise.

See if that noise is still present from the tweeters with the HU off. If so, the inductor coils in the passive xovers are picking up EMI radiation.

When we switched my car to DLS we had this problem for a few weeks and moving the passive xovers coled the problem. If there is a power wire rinning too close to them that can be the reason. Granted, there don't seem to be much in the way of wires around them... except for maybe in the power seats.

You could try pulling the pwer seat fuse and seeing if the noise goes away?

Yeah I will try that. Also I shouldn't have done this but the +12V line runs along with the speaker wires. That could contribute but if the was the problem then I will ignore the noise because it would be too much work to move all the wires.

Nice setup, does the seat completely hide it when it's back?

Running parallel to the wires themsleves is probably not the problem. But the vcoils of wire inside the passive xovers - THOSE have so much wire in them, they could be the problem.

Looks Awesome!....good luck and enjoy the ride! ...el D, should he do some sort of protection for the crossovers so no one hits them with their feet?

Looks good. I wanted to put my amp under the seat but it was just too big to fit. What kind of car is this a CL or TSX?

That is a 2004 TSX. (2005 has power passenger seat - amp is contraindicated.)

Known amps that will fit with proper mods include audison SRX4 (60w x 4), Genesis Profile 4 (50x4), DLS CA-41 and RA-40, CA-31 and RA-30, and JL 300/4 and 250/1.

They are so far back that your feet can hardly hit them....even if they did they can stick up for themselves

Actually they Type-Rs are a little flabby (not too sure how to describe them) they sound good when they they gain isnt turned up too much. I may be going with the MB Quartz 6x9s soon.

Yeah I've been listening more today with the volume no too high and I heard the same static noise and it sporadically would make a louder static noise. Really weird as I couldn't tie that louder static to anything I or the car was doing. I will try moving the xovers. This is really getting annoying...more than I thought it would be.

Also El Duderino what do you think I should place my "Grand Bass" setting at? I tried multiple settings with a light gain but I'm not sure what freq. would sound better.

The static noise does go away like I stated before...but it turns into engine whine when I rev the engine but like i said there are these sporadic loud pops that are there all the time.

Does the noise go away with the HU off, or does it still continue?

With R deck 6x9s I'm not totally certain you can use it at all... but I'd try around 45 and no more than like +3dB.

Works great for sealed subs...

Hmmm... if it's "static" noise that's only with the HU on, and not with the HU off, ... is it volume dependent?

We don't have "pause" on the CD... but do you have a test CD with a "0"-bit track?

yeah i need to make a cd with a 0-bit track and check because it may be volume dependent. but the louder pops come with the music at middle range. i confirmed that the noise stops when the hu is off but naturally that should be the case as the amp is off also.

Eld, I opened the dash up again and I found out if I mess with the wires the noise intensifies...it definitely has something to do with the remote wire and wire 3M wire taps.

Do you have any noise at all from your TSX? At all? What gain level are you at?

Thanks

Also did you use a harness to tap the speakers or did you cut the wires?

Ok Eld, I found the post about the two harness'. I will think about doing the rewire at a later date. As for now school has started so on with school while the car sits in the parking deck.

Thanks El Duderino for all your help.

That song is great! thats the only song in Swades thats decent..although I like another song, but of the tamil version.

thats good that you like your system for indian music. that's what I primarily listen to. I listen to a LOT of old stuff as well, and you know how the old recording quality is..

"kemcho" is guju. you should be askin if he listens to gujurati music, not punjabi

anyway, I listen to all sorts. esp south indian music! they are so freakin talented!!
