Finally connected the eq to head unit...

let me tell you first of all.......removing the stock head unit was a big pain in the ass for a simple person like me who doesn't have very much patience. you have to remove a lot of stuff before accessing the screws to the head unit. THANKS FOR THE WARNING, SILVER!!! LOL!! so many times during the process of removing the different panels and parts...i kept thinking of backing out of this project. BUT, i went through with it.

anyway, i connected rca cables to the outputs of the head unit. the rcas....i connected to my eq. the eq i am using can boost the voltage level of the head unit's output to almost 13v....but i kept it to a minimum...around 4v. the results after connecting everything.....I STILL GOT THE HISS. it sounded exactly like as if i was using a LOC. 4 hrs of work....same results. verified all connections, good ground, good headunit outs to my rca's. everything looked nice and secure...but i still got the hiss one would hear when using a LOC to connect the main speakers to an aftermarket amp.

someone in this forum was able to do it.....says no hiss on his system. i'm wondering if he used this set up to connect a sub only.

so NOLACLS, i would keep your set up the way it is right now. it's not worth the money to have someone redo your wiring. that's what i think, anyway. so right now, i put back everything to the way it was....no eq....still using LOC.....still minimal hiss...but i can live with that for now until i can get a new headunit.

The hiss may be the result of setting the gain control too high on your amp. Try to lower the gain to see if problem solved. If it is the solution and you get low volumn then it's time for a more powerful amp. Good luck.

Thanks for the input but I CANT even see my car cuz its at Acura waiting on a tranny!!!!! Also I will not be paying for someone to redo it cuz they did it wrong in the first place...so they are going to redo it WHEN I CAN GET MY CAR BACK!!!!! I would check to see what the max volts your amp can take as an input and turn up the gain on the EQ and turn them down on the amp....maybe that would work...maybe! Let me know...also did you use any kind of noise filter or ground loop isolator when you put RCA's on the stock wires or was it just straight to the EQ from the radio? I think spiro used some sort of noise filter inbetween the radio and the EQ and he said there was no hiss.

Also for the turn on wire for the EQ its just run to the trunk with the RCA's and it ties in with the amp's turn on wire.

i did several set ups to try and get rid of the hiss. first, i ran the rcas from the head unit without the noise filter/ground loop isolator...got hiss. next, i put the ground loop isolators after the rcas....still got hiss. next i put the isolators after the eq and still got hiss. i alo tried playing around with the gain of the amp and eq but to no avail. you must know, though, NOLA, the hiss i'm getting is not alternator whine.....it's just plain white noise (or pink noise...whatever it is) at very low volume. so after spending all that time trying to install it....i decided to put the set up back to the way it was....without the eq. i lowered the output of the LOC to the most minimum that it can let out......and that lowered the hiss somewhat....but it's still there. and yes, while trying out the eq, i ended using the power, remote, ground from the amp to power the eq. but all in vain....in my case anyway. right now...i'm just thinking of upgrading/changing my amp and speakers....not soon...still looking around!!! thanks, man! and when do you get your car back! any news on the tranny? sucks not having your baby, ain't it!!!!

you were correct, michael. i do have an alpine aftermarket amp connected to the bose amp at this time via LOC. i did what you adviced....lowered the gain on the loc and increased the gain on the alpine amp. the hiss is slightly less but it's still there. it's acceptable for now until i have the money to change everything.
